Your remedies for getting through the cold quickly

I know I know it's got to pass through your system but is there any tricks you've found that helped speed up getting better?
My head is pounding and my throat is incredibly painful and I'm struggling to swallow water. I'm also being sick, shivering, running a bit of a temp 😭

I've tried soothers, the lemsip sachet drink, various lozenges, gargling salt water, ibuprofen and paracetamol and the beecham's cold n flu capsules. I need to be in work but I work in a resturant so not sure if I should be returning.
I feel like shit, I'm so exhausted😭

Can anybody else hear the violin Grin

Was going to say gargle salt water, but I can see you've tried that!

Honey in lemon tea and a berocca (/the Boots-own cheaper version) dissolved in hot squash are my only other remedies. And sleep is really what you need –doesn't sound like you should be in work. Your body will get to healing itself while you rest, so bed is your best bet!

And being sick sounds like something else aside from the cold…

I always burn white sage at the first sign of a bug catching hold, works every time.

I'd suggest taking the evening (at least) off, especially working around food.

Thank you both
I actually had this at the start of December so I'm pissed off to have it back again! Although this time is much more severe
Have already got tomorrow off work
At what point would you see a dr? Or is that a bit OTT? I know colds are so common but no pain relief is even touching the pain 😢
Thanks muthafucka I'll look into that x

I’m a teacher and have got it down to a T!

At the very first sign (a tickly scratchy throat) take First Defence.

If the cold went into stealth mode...

Sambuccol Extra Defence.

Absolutely NO lemsip, strepsils, Beechams etc or mentholated products. They dry you out and prolong it/make it worse.

Robitussin or generic Guafainesin to thin the mucus so you can blow it out or cough it up. Boiled sweets to suck on. Difflam spray or rinse for the sore throat. Soluble paracetamol. If it’s very sore and you can tolerate it, ibuprofen.

Plenty of rest, plenty of fluids (soup made with chicken carcass, pineapple juice, water, lemon and ginger tea etc). Steam inhalation.

Good luck

2 paracetamol, mug of hot milk with a generous slug of whisky, early night.

SybilDisobedience · 29/01/2020 17:45

That sounds like flu rather than a cold. You know not to take the lemsip/beechams things with paracetamol as they already contain it, right? Very dangerous to take even slightly too much paracetamol.

ByeFeliciaa · 29/01/2020 18:01

Thanks @NameChange84 will have to pop out to the shops tomorrow
Yeah I know they contain paracetamol as well but I just want to be pain free for an hour 😭 I'm now drooling as well! I'm on part time hours at work and can't afford to lose anymore money I just want this gone 😭
Ha @FesteredFairy I don't have whisky but I do have abstinence Grin that'll do nicely wont it Grin
