Handhold please - dh test results

My dh (31) has been having stomach trouble for a while and has dark blood in his stools. He was given at a home test kit in October but didn’t get around to doing it until January (when I found out what it was and nagged him).

He gave the test in and they asked him to do a slightly different one which he did and took in a couple of days later. He got a call from docs night before last to say there was a ‘concerning’ amount of blood in his stools and that it was bleeding from further up in his digestive tract.

He now has an appointment for a colonoscopy on the 11th. His dad has had bowel cancer in the last few years and now has a permanent stoma.

I suffer with anxiety and ocd and I’m coming apart inside. Dh doesn’t want to discuss it. We have two small kids so I’m smiling on the outside and carrying on as normal.

Don’t have anyone else to talk to really which is why I’m posting on here. Not looking for advice or anything as I know we just need to wait for the test.

That sounds very worrying for you all. I've never been through this so no advice, but a handhold from me and sending love and strength to your familyThanksThanks

Thank you purpleboy. I don’t think it helps that I’ve been stuck in the house all day as my eldest is poorly so all I can do is think.

Oh bless you OP

I know nothing about it, except he is only 31, this sounds very young to me to get bowl cancer (obviously people do, but it seems unlikely) Both my GP's had it, but were in their 80's.

It could well be 'just' a stomach ulcer.

Hope you are coping as well as possible, what a worrying time for you both Flowers

Hi, I have a close family member who went through similar. It’s great that he is getting the right medical attention now.
There can be quite a few causes of bleeding, although I know the big C will be on everyone’s minds.
The waiting and worrying what if is definitely the worst part. I think getting a diagnosis can be easier.

Hugs for you, anxiety is awful without this fuel for the fire.

Thanks everyone. I’m clinging onto the fact that he’s 31 in the hope that it’s not.

@Biscusting - you’re right, it’s the not knowing that’s the absolute worst. With a diagnosis at least we can think about next steps etc.

He actually has private health insurance but is insisting he’s just going to stick with this appointment as he doesn’t know how to go about getting a private one (ring them?!?). I know it’s only 13 days away but it feels like an eternity.
