Mine randomly did that too, but if you say “ask BBC to play radio 2” then it works 🤷🏼‍♀️

WombatStewForTea · 29/01/2020 09:08

They changed something a while back. Now I have to ask Alexa to 'ask BBC to play ....'

Makinglists · 29/01/2020 09:10

Same here this am when I tried to get her to play R4 will try suggestions.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 29/01/2020 09:11

Just went and asked mine to check for you, worked fine. Have you enabled the BBC app? My Alexa plays it from BBC Sounds X

Reallybadidea · 29/01/2020 09:20

Yeah mine won't either. Plays radio 4 no problem. Can you stream it on your phone and Bluetooth it to alexa?

Thewheelsarefallingoff · 29/01/2020 09:22

Mine wouldn't play R4 earlier this morning, but is now and I just said "Alexa, play radio4" as usual.

Reallybadidea · 29/01/2020 09:37

OK, think this is another work around. Go to alexa skills, search for my tuner radio player. Enable this then say "Alexa ask my tuner radio to get me BBC radio 2"

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 29/01/2020 09:40

Mine refused a couple of times before playing when I said 'play radio 2' rather than 'play bbc radio 2'.

Annoying things....

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 29/01/2020 09:42

Tried every combination of phrases possible and eventually just tried Alexa play BBC radio 2 and all is fine.

Must've been a blip.

To get to Alexa skills go to the app, click on the menu button on the top left corner, go to skills and games. You can probably enable it by saying "Alexa, enable my tuner radio" but I haven't actually tried it that way.

Lonecatwithkitten · 29/01/2020 09:52

I had this download the BBC skills on the app then unplug and then plug back in Alexa (reboot) then she works. There are still sometimes when BBC won't play, but sometimes the DAB signal drops too. I think then it is more a BBC issue than and Alexa problem.

Winstonwolfe · 29/01/2020 10:12

I have a slightly different problem. Every time I ask alexa to play a specific song she repeats the request and adds radio onto the end. For example, I'll say "alexa play let it be by the Beatles " she will say "playing let it be by the Beatles radio" and then some random music comes on ( not the song I asked for) any ideas?

Reallybadidea · 29/01/2020 10:18

@Winstonwolfe do you have your alexa linked to your Amazon music or Spotify account?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 29/01/2020 10:43

I will have a go with skills, I might be back with more questions...

I had this this morning! I asked her in the end to play music, then asked for R4 and she did it. But wouldn’t before that.

Patroclus · 29/01/2020 10:46

Because of Steve Wright.

Elephantonascooter · 29/01/2020 11:01

I'm so glad this isn't just me. So annoying... I missed popmaster grrr

Winstonwolfe · 29/01/2020 11:03

@Reallybadidea I have it linked to spotify

KondoKonvert · 29/01/2020 11:08

Mine has been doing this for a while. I tried to set my alarm to wake up to radio 2 and ended up with a foreign language station. Music was pretty good though Grin

catzrulz · 29/01/2020 11:11

I've 2 Alexa's. One played it no problem, the other I had to ask to play BBC Radio 2. Was wondering if it is something to do with them as now I can't set an alarm to play Radio 2 either.

Reallybadidea · 29/01/2020 11:14

I'm not exactly sure what the reason is, but I have my Alexa linked to my Amazon Music account and if I ask Alexa to play Let it Be by the Beatles, then I do get that particular song. So I wonder whether it's to do with Spotify. Do you have it linked as your default music library and is it the premium Spotify account or the free one?

Reallybadidea · 29/01/2020 11:16

With the Radio 2 problems - the BBC apparently know that there's an issue and apparently it's under investigation. Althoug the article is from December so they appear to be taking their sweet time about it! www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/help/issues/bbc-sounds/echo-streaming-issues
