My daughter it's asking me to put on a Welsh song. I'm deaf and not Welsh (she is)

I can't make out what she is asking for. I asked her to sing it.

Sounds like she's saying ooh my gavey us bye.

I can't find any clues.

Is it Yma o Hyd by Dafydd Iwan? It got to 1 in the iTunes chart last week.

Stabbitha · 28/01/2020 20:05

It isn't that and I think it's current popularity is skewing my search.

Try Calon Lan

daisym00n · 28/01/2020 20:27

Does she know if it's modern or older? Where did she hear it?

noideaatallreally · 28/01/2020 20:33

oes gafr eto?

Stabbitha · 28/01/2020 21:39

She's only 6.

She had choir after school club today so I assume she heard it at school.

I've recorded her singing it and will show her teacher, see if she knows.

I'm no longer with her dad. He's also Welsh and she may have heard it there. I've sent it to him also but no reply and I don't really expect I'll get one tbh.

I think it's Hafan Gobaith.

The chorus goes;

Yma fe gei ysbaid,
Noddfa i'th enaid,
Cei yma orffwys
Yn hafan gobaith hyd y wawr.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 28/01/2020 22:45

Gee gefyll bach?

Llareggub · 28/01/2020 22:47

This is a brilliant challenge. Do you have any other words? Calon Lan is what came to mind immediately for me.

HettyStThomas · 28/01/2020 22:51

I thought it could be Sosban Fach too. My DS both learnt it in school.

mamansnet · 28/01/2020 22:56

Fantastic challenge! Doesn't sound like any of the lyrics in calon lan or sosban fach but I'd be interested to know what it is!

Stabbitha · 29/01/2020 01:21

I don't think it's any mentioned but I can't ask DD now because she's in bed.

I'll update if I find any more clues. I would post the video but don't know how.

@tatyr

Hafan Gobaith is correct!

She randomly came down for a wee just as I was posting the last post (downstairs loo).

The lyrics looked like they could be correct so I quickly googled and followed her upstairs with it playing.

I won't forget that happy sleepy smile for a while.

Magic. Thank you.

Yay!
I learnt that song as an engish person, so I'm my head it looks more like her version, as I had written it beside in a way I could understand!

How lovely she was singing it at home!
