Affirmations, positivity etc

Is this like some sort of new FB gullible following?

I get it’s good to be positive, but to think the earth is aligning to you and doing everything you want because you’re thinking about it... surely this is more damaging than good?

I’m starting to wonder what people are trying to ignore in their lives when they are posting these every day.

Can’t be that happy and positive in their life surely?

I can’t understand why it gives me internal rage? Haha anyone else not understanding any of this?

I do believe in the laws of attraction. Think about it, you're having a bad day and all you notice are the bad things. Then you're having a good day and all you notice are good things.

If you're naturally a negative person, you life will generally always look bad whereas if you see the good in things and are positive then that's what you see.

I like to listen to positive affirmations when I'm feeling stressed, it helps calm me and refocus my mind.

I imagine you're generally a negative person OP? I'm not saying that to be rude but I assume you perhaps are.

I think it gives people internal rage because it's so bland and twee and glosses over individual circumstances. It actually lacks empathy while coming across as empowering. But I think people who post this stuff are really struggling with depression or dark times and trying to reset their outlook to a more open and cheerful one, which in itself can have a beneficial effect.

I wouldn’t say I’m generally negative no, I don’t see how stuff such as the secret would actually help anyone though. It seems to be overall more negative than positive.
Of course the law of attraction works and there are reasons why- but what the secret and the other ones similar is doing is not only placing blame on people who have it rough, but it also comes from a huge place of delusion.

Affirmations can be really positive, when you need them. But not like this.

And yeah, the massive lack of empathy is a massive point I’ve noticed about it.

Instead of believing in this and putting their all into it I think it would be healthier for people to deal with their issues instead of ignoring them.

Affirmations sound a bit wanky, but can be really beneficial to people who suffer anxiety and depression.

When you say something positive out loud, you give yourself a little dose of serotonin and endorphins. Scientifically it has benefits, even if you don't believe what you're actually saying.

Posting it on fb doesn't have quite the same impact though, as it only works if you say it out loud.

I agree op - they so often come across as victim mentality statements, if that makes sense? Almost like, so long as you are nice and kind - the planets will align and you will have only positive things happen. And shit will happen to people who aren’t (in your mind) nice and kind.
And they are so often peddled by people who really aren’t nice or kind at all but are absolute wankers!

It’s like putting fake syncopated shit like that out there will make people think how positive and great they are! Can’t they just be cool with just “being” positive, nice and kind and not having to make a big show of it?

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head @ Lanaturnerssmileagain
