Holocaust Day . The Windermere Children

I have just watched this, and was so moved. Children from the extermination camps brought to the UK to a former factory in Windermere . I had never heard of the story, and I wish I had, it should be better known.

On BBC 4 some of them are talking about the experiences that took them to the extermination camps. How ignorant people can claim the camps did not exist when faced with such testimony I do not understand.

I've just been watching it too, so incredibly moving. The historian Martin Gilbert wrote a fantastic book about the children, called The Boys: Triumph over Adversity. It's well-worth reading.

Oh I am sorry to have missed that. I have to confess that I didn't know anything about this until recently, despite living in the area. But I was in the Windermere Boat Museum a few weeks ago and there was a small section about thess children. I would love to know more. I think hearing these stories is more important than ever right now. We really mustn't forget, now that there are so few survivors left to tell us about their horrific experiences.
