Thoughts please...
Our heating controller broke last week. I bought a new one for almost £60 from Amazon(from another seller)

A friend came and fitted it on Saturday. Hot water worked but heating didn't.
Heating engineer came to have a look today. I had to go to work. When I got home Mum told me that it was the controller was broken.
Engineer had looked on the box and it says that once the box is opened you can't return the controller. Surely though you won't know its broken until you try to use it. 😕 😕 😕 😕
Tried to ring the number on Amazon page which didnt work. Have found another number on Facebook and will try and ring them tomorrow.
I'm pissed off that I'm £60 down. 😔 😔 😔 😔 😔

The number was for the company who sold me the controller not Amazon... Will ring tomorrow and if they are difficult I will contact Amazon...

The box almost certainly days in the small print "your statutory rights are not affected". It's your statutory rights that mean you can return it for a full refund if it's faulty.

Request return through Amazon (there should be an option on your order details screen). If that doesn't work report seller to Amazon. If that doesn't work involve Trading Standards (although I think you'll need to look up their address and report to their local Trading Standards) and threaten legal action. If that doesn't work then actually take legal action.

Don't bother with the manufacturer, request the return on Amazon it's much easier.

Have arranged a return. It's via the post office... Will wait and see what they say. I don't earn a huge amount so £60 is a lot of money.... 😔 😔 😔 😔

They are going to prosecute you if your worker fits it incorrectly?

That cant be legal

Either way you have statutory rights they cant take those away from you

It's rather put me off buying things like this again from Amazon... I thought I'd got a bargain... 🤔 🤔 🤔 🤔

Please stop bothering about contacting the seller. Go onto Amazon chat.

Sorry. Hope they help!

I have committed MN no-no and will give you my husband's views (he is a heating engineer though).

The blurb on that label isn't relevant as a time switch is not a gas carrying part

The not allowed send back once open is usually when the manufacturer would send own engineer to check. (Triton showers so this).

When you say original controller broke, what happened?

Elderflower14 · 27/01/2020 20:32

@DobbinOnTheLa The green button stopped working so we couldn't adjust the timings.

Thanks everyone. Started a refund last night. Took it to PO this morning and they scanned the black thingy and Amazon have just emailed to say my refund is complete and I will get my money back in a few days!
