Anyone else still need to do their tax return?

Not just their return but the whole years accounts. Blush

I’m fucked. I will get it done in time, they’re not especially complex, just long winded and a faff. But why do I do this to myself??

Dunno, I do my prep in June, send it to the accountant who invariably does it the last week in January. Does my head in.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 27/01/2020 18:12

I just can’t bring myself to pay an accountant. They charge so much!

Me! It's fairly straight forward for me but still need to find the time to sit down and do it 😳

I’m guilty too but mine were all prepped sometime in July just need to fill in and submit. Why oh why do I keep leaving it this late?

speakout · 27/01/2020 18:17

I don't pay an accountant.

I agree it looms hard, but the best you can do is buckle up and get it done.
Not pleasant, but the relief afterwards is worth it.
I am a sole trader- under VAT threshold. Tax office themselves suggested I don't waste my money on an accountant. They have been very helpful.
Depends on your business of course, but mine is pretty simple.

speakout · 27/01/2020 18:18

I submitted mine on 6th January.
It felt good.

MrsPerfect12 · 27/01/2020 18:18

Mine is preped but I still need to fill it in. Did it on the last day last year with a vow never to do that again 🤦🏻‍♀️🙄

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 27/01/2020 18:22

I’m also a sole trader, I just need to complete the short return.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat

Just do it!! The burden of the thought of it is not a good bit of luggage.

Muddlingalongalone · 27/01/2020 18:25

Me - only to payback child benefit so super quick - payslips & p60 online at work. Just need to get my arse in gear.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 27/01/2020 18:26

I know. I will. Maybe tomorrow Grin

297 done and dusted, one to come in, about twenty to submit.

There will be alcohol on Friday!

VivaLeBeaver · 27/01/2020 18:27

dh does and he's fucked it up. Not sure how but he thought something from a previous year was open and it wasn't.

He's been on the phone to them today and they need to reset something before he can do it but it will take 10 days for them to reset it! So that takes him past the 31st. Not sure how that works with being fined but he says he'll appeal.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 27/01/2020 18:28

Presumably you’re paid to do that many @ClashCityRocker Grin

I would be more motivated to do mine if I was paid too! Instead, I have to do the paying Wink

Has he forgotten his ID?

jackstini · 27/01/2020 18:35

Am pissed off with my accountant as sent everything in by end of October and he's finally got them right today on the 5th attempt!Angry

Going to do it myself next year or change accountants

ClashCityRocker · 27/01/2020 18:35

I am georgie.... (although not enough it seems like sometimes - and certainly nowhere near the amount my firm charges!)

Get it done, you'll feel better for it.

(Anecdotally, accountants and tax advisors are apparently the worst for getting their tax returns in just before the deadline)

thehorseandhisboy · 27/01/2020 18:40

Yes. My accountant said that he resigns himself to being fined for late submission for his accounts every year, as he's so busy with all his paying punters who leave theirs until the last minute...

TheLidoOfThighs · 27/01/2020 18:42

Glad I’m not the only one! Nearly done, it’s my first year with accounts. Not worried about the tax return, that’s easy, although I’ve never left it anywhere near this late before. Wanted to get the accounts done first!

LBOCS2 · 27/01/2020 18:44

Me - no excuse, I'm just putting it off Blush

Redpriestandmozart · 27/01/2020 19:17

I usually submit mid-January, but this year I did it late November and it seems very strange, I feel like I should be doing it! I plan on doing the same next year so it's all out of the way for Christmas.

1forsorrow · 27/01/2020 19:22

I usually do mine last minute but I did mine back in November and I've even paid them (I do mine and husbands.) Oh it feels so wonderful, I've sworn I'm doing the next lot in April. It hangs over me all year, just nagging at the back of my mind every now and then. Getting it done is so liberating. The next lot will be the last time I need to do one, we had two BTL properties, one sold and one about to go on the market.

My sympathies to everyone struggling at the last minute.

VanGoghsDog · 27/01/2020 19:33

They charge so much!

This year she charged £315 for doing both my personal self assessment and my Ltd company return. Doesn't seem too bad.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 27/01/2020 19:49

I guess we’re all in different financial positions. £315 is a lot to me.

Same! I even set myself an alarm this morning to remember to do it tonight. I am now sat on the sofa. I've reset my alarm for the morning 😬
