Ok this is bothering irrationally 😂 On DOI Phil and Holly are announcing couples who are through to next week and they say ‘the next couple through IS...Joe and Alex’ ...every time I hear it I want to correct them...’the next couple through ARE...Joe and Alex’
It’s ARE not IS surely, because it’s plural?

Couple is singular. They are correct. One couple is, two couples are!

I know what you mean by one couple is singular but they’re announcing two names so sounds like it should be plural to me
