Second sac seen in scan

Hi Ladies

I went for my first ultrasound today and the sonographer identified one viable pregnancy, with heartbeat estimated 5w6days. Additionally, he could also see a second sac on the scan. I’ve been advised to come back in 2 weeks for a rescan but he’s advised that it could be one of two thing. A second sac that hasn’t developed into a baby properly and will reabsorb. Alternatively, the second sac could be further behind and could have a visible baby and heartbeat in a couple of weeks.

Would love to know if this has happened to any of you before and if you’ve gone on to have a single pregnancy/twins? I’d love to have twins but imagine re-absorption is the most likely eventuality?

Yes happened to me at about the same stage. By an 8 week scan there was just one. Sorry if you wanted twins - could still happen I guess.

Happened to me, I have adult twin dds!

Mine was a bit further on (7 weeks) but one good size heart beating etc and one much smaller with no heartbeat. Told second one may not develop further

DTs are 10 now. Dd2 has always been a tiny dot of a thing and smaller than dd1 to the extent people don't always assume they are twins. Ivf babies so dates couldn't be clearer.

Yes it's common.
I went back for a second scan and the second sac had developed.
I had fraternal twins.

I had a frozen 3D Embryo transfer and 2 embryos transferred. Day 12 hcg test was 722 and positive. Went for the first scan 17days PT and saw 1 sac. So technically the pregnancy is 4weeks 5days now is it too early to see? Could there be one more sac? But because this is frozen embryos if there was one more we would be able to see like the one we saw maybe? I am confused😑 Anyone have an idea please?
