Anyone else had IPH in labour?

When in labour with my now 3 year old I lost 2 pints of blood. It was very scary and I’m still hazy about what happened and/or why.

I am now pregnant with my second child and nobody seems to know whether it will happen to me again, or what I can do to mitigate the risk.

Did anyone have a haemorrhage during labour and if so how was it managed during birth the second time round?

Awful first labour, over 30 hours, child born in theatre forceps delivery, haemorrhage after, blood transfusion for 2 days, very weak and shaky for some time after, second labour, just over 5 hours start to finish, all fine :)

I also had haemorrhage with first. Long labour (Thurs to Monday) forceps, epesiotomy etc.
Second labour at 34 weeks, 4 hours ish start to finish. No haemorrhage.

How likely it is to happen again will depend quite a lot on why it happened in the first place and how your pregnancy is going this time. Your midwife/consultant should be able to see most of the info from your old notes. For most causes of haemorrhage there’s nothing much you can do to prevent it.

Greybeardy it was an unexplained haemorrhage. That’s what scares me. Is it worth asking if I can have a C-Section?
