Chocolate fudge cake or or vanilla birthday cake with jam and buttercream.

I know they're both pretty safe but I can't make up my mind which to make for ds' birthday party Cake

Different age but my nearly 3yo is obsessed with chocolate cake!

OTOH you can't go wrong with classic Victoria sponge.

What's your son's favourite of the two? Make that.

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 26/01/2020 13:08

Ds at 5 would have eaten a small piece of vanilla sponge and refused chocolate completely.
Dd at 5 would have eaten both. 2 whole cakes.
And been very sick.
I would go for the vanilla, with fancy icing/candles

Vanilla. Weirdly, a lot of young kids don't like chocolate cake!

Chocolate fudge, my kids don't seem to like vanilla cake.

spurlingpipe · 26/01/2020 13:10

Ds has a massive sweet tooth so will be over the moon with anything as long as it's loaded with sugar Grin

My 5 year old DD hates chocolate cake and will refuse it at parties as that's what it invariably is 😂🙈

She always requests vanilla with jam and buttercream and is currently trying to dictate the flavour of her brothers cake for his 1st bday....!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 26/01/2020 14:45

6yo... Chocolate. She hates jam and will only entertain the vanilla cake if I scrape the jam out. When I make hers I don't put jam in.

TellMeItsNotTrue · 26/01/2020 14:55

DS5 definitely vanilla, loves chocolate but not chocolate cake

I think vanilla is a safer choice for most people, I know a lot of people who don't like chocolate cake or will have a tiny bit but that's all as too much is sickly

Stravapalava · 26/01/2020 16:12

Vanilla. My 5 year old loves cake, but can't finish a slice of chocolate one.

misspiggy19 · 26/01/2020 16:13

Chocolate

Apolloanddaphne · 26/01/2020 16:13

My DDs much preferred chocolate cake at that age, preferably a Colin caterpillar from M&S.

Comefromaway · 26/01/2020 16:15

Mine would have preferred vanilla.they both preferred chocolate cake but not chocolate fudge cake.

sanityisamyth · 26/01/2020 16:16

DS6 would eat a small amount of either.

OvenGlovesWillTearUsApart · 26/01/2020 17:36

Are you mad? Make both, obviously.

BestestBrownies · 26/01/2020 17:41

Make a 2-layer cake. One layer chocolate and the other vanilla. Sandwich together with buttercream and ice/decorate as desired. Should please everyone that way.

IamChipmunk · 26/01/2020 19:06

Mine are 3 and 5 both would vote chocolate!

mogtheexcellent · 26/01/2020 19:15

Jam is my daughters nemesis. or poison. or both.

ive tried explaining she loves fruit AND sugar and its just a squishy mix of both but shes not having it.

We usually have chocolate because of this, except she has asked for vanilla this year. Vanilla buttercream on the outside with buttercream and no jam is going to be weird.

So choose chocolate.
