Has anyone recoloured grout?

Don’t in a million years thing DH will actually go for this... we’re not talking about a small area and they’re white tiles with currently white grout. But I’d like to change to a dark grey grout and while expecting it to be a terrible idea, has anyone done it without losing mind, marriage or tile colour? I’ve seen things like this www.tradetiler.com/consumables/grout-colorant/universeal-grout-rescue-colour-seal-237ml-dark-grey.html

Google white tiles grey grout,
lots of images on google.

Yes, I’ve seen loads of images of it finished and it’s the look I’d ideally like - but interested in lay experiences doing it if anyone has any. That vid on the previous link makes it look almost too easy but we’ve got better things to spend on right now than getting someone patient in to redo a huge amount of perfectly ok white grout.

We debated doing it, but you need to deep clean the current grout or it will come up patchy. I was worried that we wouldn’t get it clean enough and end up with patchy grout, so decided against it

Yes. Huge mistake! Absolutely huge!

We had white tiles and coloured the grout red (1980s!). Oh that bit was fine. Dead easy.

It will show up every single imperfection in the tiling. If each tile is not perfectly placed and the grout evenly spread and totally uniform you will notice.

Mine looked dreadful although it looked perfectly OK before.

Tbf the actual tiling is brilliant - visitors have always commented (it wasn’t our work!). But they’ve been on a few years now and the thought of deep cleaning THAT many tiles and metres of grout might be enough to put me off, let alone anything else... think the main worry is grey grout marking white tiles...

If your wall bulges at all or is even the tiniest bit out of true you'll see it. Provided you wipe the excess colour off straight away and you have glazed tiles it shouldn't mark

Right. Plan for this evening is ply DH with the rest of the weekend booze then have him inspect it. Wish me luck Grin

Good luck! If you can pull it off it should look great :)
