Decorating a new (to you) house

Ours was walk in condition not 100 % my taste but nice, a year later it's still as it was, I'm starting to get embarrassed that we've done nothing. What's the norm? Does everyone personalise their place right away?

Some do, some dont. Lots cant afford to. Anyone with half a brain understands that someones house might look how it looks because they lack the time or money or inclinationto renovate, rather than thinks they simply have dated or terrible taste.

Decorate for yourself, if you want and if it's affordable OP. You live there not others!

We're about to buy a very dated house and will redecorate a bit as we have a spare month between getting the keys and our rental contract ending so may as well while its empty as it'll be far easier. Once the furniture is in and life begins, I think realistically most people just leave it as it is as they can't be bothered with the disruption.

Thanks don'tgo, everyone I know seems to have a showhouse Grin. it's the upheaval I can't be bothered with, definitely start looking at one room at a time like yourself, easier to get my head round.

we moved last July into a house that needs every room decorating as definitely not our taste and so far we have only decorated one room our bedroom, we are about to finish it off with new carpets and once that's done we will then move onto the next bedroom, like yours the rest of it is liveable for now but im only doing one room at a time not overwhelming myself and visitors to mine come to see me not what the house looks like

We moved in 4 years ago and are slowly doing things. It was decorated fine and neutral when we moved in but not to my taste.

So far we have done the living room and DDs bedroom.

We are painting the main bathroom at half term and putting in a new sink.

In the summer I hope to get around to painting the dinning room.

But, these things take time and we don't have the money to pay someone to do it so we have to fit it in when we can.
