Asda specs

Hello, I need an eye test and new glasses
For the last few years I've been going to my local independent optician in the next village. A couple of years ago, I started to need varifocals (sob). My lenses alone cost about £280, and there wasn't much change from £500 for my specs (I threw caution to the wind and got really nice frames).

Asda opticians do complete variofocals with all the thining, anti scratch etc that I would normally get, for a top price point of £180/2 pairs. So quarter the price of my last single pair.

From price Asda specs seem like a n0-brainer to me, but are they OK? They're not going to fall apart in 6 months or anything are they? I've seen some frames in there i really like.

My Dgs gets his glasses from Asda, he needs prisms in because of his eye problems. They were the only optition to realise he needed them.(2 other optitions missed this).
He is a typical lad always messing about, not careful with his glasses and they have been great. The frames are very robust.
Next time I need a test I will go to Asda.

I have a difficult prescription, and Asda have been brilliant on both sets of glasses I've had. The price point is amazing, and I'm delighted with my glasses - the pair I had before I had varifocals were £360 odd for one pair (thinning, prisms etc) and needing varifocals was what made me think I'd try Asda. The pair I'm wearing now are 2 years old and no issues apart from my middle aged eyes needing to change them again soon!

All my glasses, including varifocals, have come from Asda. They are great.

Both me and the husband use Asda for glasses. I can't fault them.
We also used Tesco when their opticians were theirs. They were very good too.

I used to work within Optics, it doesn’t matter who you choose the Optometrist that performs your sight test are all qualified to the same standard. There is so much regulation, prices will vary depending on the retailer, but that doesn’t mean the product will be inferior.

Thats helpful to know @Roselilly36, thank you. I was assuming that the prescription diagnosis would be much the same, but was thinking about how robust the frames are. I'll make an appt in the morning,

Ironically I started going to the local independent because they worked out cheaper than Specsavers for my (then) single vision prescription.

You tend to get what you pay for with Varifocals. The cheaper lenses have more distortion and a smaller visual corridor to see through.

The whole family have theirs from there.

Generally I don't think they can be beaten and my sunglasses are the nicest I have had. As someone who has a difficult prescription a nice pair of sunglasses is important.
