Eating one meal a day

Hi, is eating one meal a day (I.e. going all day without food then having tea) sustainable / good for metabolism or will it slow weight loss?
I really want to kick start my weight loss as I have 4st to lose and for the past few days I’ve been doing that. I have a non-physical job and no time for exercise and I don’t feel as hungry during the day as I do when I have food! My body gets used to it.
Is it a terrible idea? Blush

If you dont feel hungry then why not.

My dp generally only eats in the evening.
No point eating when youre not hungry

I eat 1 meal and evening snacks and lose weight so long as I control what I eat.

Would you be getting enough calories though? If I don’t eat anything all day I am very liable to eat crap snacks AND a big dinner.

Perfectly fine IF you make sure it's balanced and enough.

I know someone who has lost a lot of weight doing this. You do need to put a lot of thought into that one meal though to make sure you have 5 veg, protein, good fat though and she said that was a bit of a struggle - but preferred one larger meal to two/three smaller ones

I only eat dinner most days. I am a normal weight but just don’t really get hungry during the day. If I do, I eat.

I don't know how people only manage on one meal a day. I start to feel weak and light headed if I don't eat much.

I have small meals when hungry to be honest, one meal would be a huge binge trigger for me, I would manage it but then get so hungry that I ate everything in sight. To be sustainable you need to be eating enough calories, health is important as well as weight loss. Maybe something like fasting between 8pm and 10am or something would work better? Then you have all of your calories within the timeframe, but it does work in my experience.

Read Delay Don’t Deny, research intermittent fasting. A 20 hr fast:4 hr window is perfectly sustainable. Ensure you keep your fast properly clean to keep your insulin levels down.

I do it. Amazing for weight loss (once you get into it) but surprisingly it's not a quick fix but a lifestyle choice.
You do stop being hungry after a period of time and it's so good for you if you eat well and do not calorie restrict in that meal.
If you serious about trying it I recommend reading and listening to as much info as possible before starting. Otherwise you will talk yourself out of it when you're feeling hungry, which you will do to start off with. But this hunger goes away very quickly after an adjustment period.
This is the first time I've ever been able to sustain weight loss. I'm in my late 40's.
You may need to start slowly though. Missing breakfast then moving lunch back by a small amount after periods of time.
This is what I did
Listen to the " Intermittent Fasting Podcast" to start.
"Intermittent Fasting Stories" is also good. Iisten whilst doing your housework then work out how you are going to do it..
Started with 16 hours fasting and 8 eating....
Game changer.

I don't get hungry in the day cause I eat enough at night. I work daytime too so don't really get time to eat in the day

MollysMummy2010 · 23/01/2020 23:37

I don't often but yesterday I had a packet of crisps and a Twix at half twelve so would have been better having lunch! I work 9 - 2.45 and don't get a lunch break. If I don't take food in there is only a vending machine so I think this is how I have ended up just eating in the evening. Used to it now.
