Website for scheduling presents months in advance?

Does anyone know any gift websites where you can order presents a couple of months in advance and select the date that you want the gift to be sent to the recipient? I’ve had a google and can’t seem to find anything but surely this sort of thing exists?!

Thanks! Smile

I don’t know of one but I was thinking how useful a card one would be after I got a bit overly organised planning birthdays and realised you can only send moonpigs the same or next day! I’ve had to set reminders in my phone which doesn’t feel as good.

Let’s start one Grin

Yes! Would be really handy for cards too. Surely someone must have thought of this already??!

It would have issues for the business - until the gift is sent the money you have spent can't be taken - if using a credit card, it can be reserved, but not removed from your card / account... this means that there will be high risk of buying in goods to send out, but not being able to take the money - companies like Amazon can do it because their scale is large enough to absorb any issues / to have the items in stock anyway...

also, any money they do take through other means is 'client money' until the item is dispatched and has to be ring-fenced...

for any small company setting up - all of this becomes a complete financial nightmare (we build websites including eCommerce and this is all a bit tricky!)

there could be other ways of doing it - you put in details / dates / gift and the website emails you 3 days beforehand to get you to pay... that could work...

however I also think that the majority of people just go online and buy now - they are not planning 3 months ahead... so I think that it would only work within a website that sells normally as well...

not sure I would be encouraging one of our clients to do this... business model is I think weak / risky

Actually, I do know a lovely website that does this: www.biscuiteers.com/ they sell beautiful iced biscuits and it looks as though you can schedule an order months in advance. I’ve bought from them before but never made use of the order in advance feature before. I think I will use them for some upcoming gifts I need to buy but I’d love to be able to order some different types of gifts eg beauty and clothing gifts too.

@akkakk hadn’t thought of all those complications! And now I think about it, I can see that it would be tricky in terms of items going in and out of stock, and no longer being available once it comes to the dispatch date. You would think that a company like Moonpig, which prints the cards to order, would be able to do this though.

Moonpig do it for cards

Itsashame · 23/01/2020 14:59

Actually I’m not sure what their lead time is though. They do remind you however when a birthday is coming up

ACurlyWurly · 23/01/2020 15:01

I have recently done my whole year of cards on moonpig and specified delivery dates up until November. I do it each year with either Moonpig or Funkypigeon.

I have also ordered some retro sweets from moonpig which will be sent in March. didnt see anything about only being able to do it next day?!

Itsashame · 23/01/2020 15:01

They do!! I’ve just gone on to moonpig and I can order a card to be delivered in a few months

randominternetperson · 23/01/2020 15:09

Yeah moonpig do it. Pretty sure you can add overpriced gifts on to be delivered at the same time too...

AnneLovesGilbert · 23/01/2020 15:39

What?! I must have completely missed that! That’s a job for tonight.

GiveMeABreakAlready · 23/01/2020 19:47

Ah that’s brilliant about Moonpig! Thanks all for correcting me on that. Like @annelovesgilbert I am going to shuffle off to order all my cards in advance!
