Does anyone here have an MBA?

If so, has it been worth it?

I’d like to do one but it would be self funded so I’d need to do one of the cheaper ones which I think would limit my career prospects.

Would it still be worth perusing?

Shameful bump!

I don’t actually know where else this thread could go 🤷‍♀️

No but recently I also considered doing, discussed with my boss and he felt it's not necessary and won't improve my career opportunities. I am already at a fairly senior level, I had wondered if it would 'rubber stamp' my experience, but he thinks not.

So perhaps depends where you are at in your career...?

DH does. His employer funded it about 25 years ago.

I’m not particularly high up in my career at the moment to be fair. I’d have just scraped the managerial requirements by the time I start it.

@Ginfordinner - has it helped his career?

I wouldn't say so, no.

StealthMama · 23/01/2020 21:12

I'm not sure they are as highly thought of as they used to be.

Ginfordinner · 23/01/2020 21:27

I think you are right StealthMama

I was one of the first to do an MBA in the UK back in the late 80's.I think the impact it has on your career will depend on what you do. If you work in management consultancy then an MBA is pretty mandatory - or was. Other professions not so much. I work in advertising and it's not really impacted my career progression other than ensuring I get an interview in a lot of places. Plus as highly vocational Masters qualifications have become a thing I think the MBA may have less relevance in a lot of industries

Thanks all!

I’ll probably skip the MBA then. I do want to do a masters still though

DH did his MBA in the late 80s. I don't know of anyone doing one now.

I did one in the USA and now run the MBA programs at a university. I think they are fabulous and highly thought of degrees that deliver great ROI and can facilitate a career change or promotion.
