Football in the Winter?

SpringtimeMum95 · 22/01/2020 20:40

My DS (9) wants to kick a football in the cold outside! Should I let him, or is it too cold in the winter? If he does go outside, how can I keep him (relatively) warm?

It’s a winter sport... put him in skins, he’ll be fine Smile

It's football season. Layer him up, he'll be OK Smile

Cold?? It's been -25 here this week and the kids played outside.

Has your 9 year old really never played out in the winter/cold before? If you are in the UK it's not even that cold. Those kids that play football for a team will be playing in shorts/shirts (possibly skins) if he just wants to kick a ball around just dress him for the weather coat/hat and let him go outside for goodness sake.

Football is traditionally a winter sport.
He will be fine in a warm hoodie.
After he's run about for a bit, he will feel warm anyway.

I send mine out to football and rugby several times a week at the moment.
Thermals under shorts and tshirt and a hoodie, running round keeps them warm. Grin

Skins under his kit and he’ll be fine! I can’t keep mine off the field playing football even when the weather is really bad!

He’s also the goalkeeper so spends a lot of time stood around so he knows how to layer up!

He'll keep himself warm running about.
