Yoga by Adrienne

Has anyone tried this? I am interesting in starting yoga - total novice, no experience whatsoever - but I have suffered with some mental issues (anxiety) and some physical issues (digestive problems) and I've heard yoga can benefit both.

I am very nervous about joining a class at this stage so am hoping to try some YouTube videos from home when I get a quiet half hour alone.

Does anyone have any advice for a beginner? Or have any other recommendations - Adrienne seems to keep popping up on google but I'm open to other suggestions.

She's brilliant. I suggest you start with one of her 30 day plans, because they start with basics and slowly build. You don't have to actually do a class every day for 30 days if that doesn't suit.

I started with the True 30 day series and have been hooked ever since.

Agree that she's great! I live that she's not too quick (some people hate this), but as a beginner it means you have time to get into the correct position. And she holds her position whilst chatting so you have time to compare yourself.

I think she's done a yoga for beginners series to help explain the poses. It's not the most interesting, but is good grounding. Then as pp says do one of her 30days series. Home is this year's.

On her website she also puts up monthly 30 day timetables of previous videos. I don't practice every day, but take one of the series and do it over 60/70 days as I like.

Also the yoga board on here has loads of Adrienne threads / group yoga practice threads

I didn't even realise there was a yoga board! I'll have a look thank you x

@beckywiththeshithair27 It's in Body and Soul (rather than exercise), just in case you can't spot it!

I've just started her beginners sessions on YouTube. She's fab and great for complete beginners like me.

QueenofLouisiana · 22/01/2020 17:20

I did some of her videos when I started yoga, hey are good to get yourself started.

I prefer a less chatty style now, so use an app. However, I pay for the app which I wouldn’t have done when starting out.

Other than that, wear clothing you can move in- bear in mind that your top can end up round your ears! Have something warm to hand for relaxing at the end. Enjoy!

I think she's great for beginners. Agree with a pp that once you get a bit more experience she can be a wee bit slow, but for those starting out she's fab. Once you get your confidence up, try a class or two though, there's really nothing like a teacher to help you master the poses. Yoga isn't about 'pushing' but just a hand here and there can help you realise you're better/bendier than you think!

mynameiscalypso · 22/01/2020 17:30

Adriene is the best! I totally agree with one of the 30 day programmes - they're structured in a way that means the practices build on each other and there are easier days after the harder days so you don't get too tired/sore. There are also loads of other videos on her YouTube though for almost every possible need - there are some specific practices for anxiety and for digestion which might be beneficial for you.

Adrienne is great! If you’re going to do YouTube yoga then she’s definitely the one to go for. My beginner advice would be don’t worry about keeping up with the pace. Take your time watching to see how to do the poses, it’s more important that you get the poses right than anything else. It won’t take long before you can do what you’re supposed to just by listening without having to watch. Good luck!
