The best Prime Minister we never had?

Just watching You’ve Been Framed TV, and heard this phrase, and realised that I seem to have heard it absolutely loads over the last few months, especially towards the end of the last parliament.
It got me thinking, if I had to choose, who would be that person? I think if I absolutely had to, I’d say John Smith, but there would be a couple of others in the frame.
So I’m wondering who do you think is the best PM we never had and why?

I still blame Diane bloody Abbott for David Milliband. Without sharing his vote so she could be nominated I think he would have made it.

Can't take the credit for this myself but saw on here somewhere someone suggested Hugh Grant in Love Actually. Youngish, fiesty, likes chubby girls...

@Justajot that’s a really good point. I think Keir but apart from that none immediately spring to mind!

The first person I recall "supporting" for the Labour leadership was Peter Shore.

In recent years circulating online there has been a recording of his speech made during the run up to the initial referendum on membership of the Common Market. Worth a listen for some historical perspective!

My all time favourite politician was Barbara Castle.
