Another contender for dullest post ever - Tesco delivery saver

SciFiScream · 20/01/2020 22:03

Have recently (as in for two weeks) started getting Tesco deliveries again, after many years of shopping in Lidl. Mainly to save time. Easy for DH to put an online list together on his commute. The cost of delivery is cheaper than our hourly rate (we added that in as an opportunity cost!)

Driver today suggested we look into the delivery saver options so I thought I'd ask the wise readers of Mumsnet for their thoughts.

Good or bad idea?
How do I get the best value from it if we go ahead?
I woke from home so loads of delivery possibilities.

Anything else I should know?

It's a no brainier if you're getting weekly shops, really. It's always cheaper getting the delivery pass if you're getting a shop delivered every week. It just depends on whether you want the any day of the week one or whether you are organised enough to be able to get it every week on one of the midweek days. We aren't so we just have the any day one Grin

Pipandmum · 20/01/2020 22:07

I got it. Its £5-6 for deliveries when I want them so as long as I get at least two deliveries a month it's cheaper and I usually get one a week. It also means if I need a second delivery mid week it's not costing me anything more.

magnarocks · 20/01/2020 22:09

You can 'pay' for it with Clubcard points if you have enough. 👍🏻

georgialondon · 20/01/2020 22:09

I have the mid week saver so free deliveries Tues-Thursday. Those days work best for me anyway. It's £2 per month.

Jacalouse · 20/01/2020 22:10

Isn't there a new club saver thing where you get 10% off 2 shops per month (for a 7.99 monthly fee) wonder if you can use that with home deliveries as well?

CatFaceCats · 20/01/2020 22:10

Absolutely worth it! I have the mid week one - £36 a year for Tues-Thursday slots. We get a delivery a week, and with slots £5/6 it’s more than worth it!
I just make sure i do the shop on a Saturday, just put in £40 worth to effectively hold my slot and then I do my meal plan and amend on a Monday night.

CatFaceCats · 20/01/2020 22:12

@Jacalouse the 10% off is in store only.

MadisonAvenue · 20/01/2020 22:13

I have the midweek option, meaning my deliveries have to be on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday and I think it's £3.49 a month.

I usually have one delivery a week, and there's a minimum spend of £40 for a free delivery.

trilbydoll · 20/01/2020 22:16

Midweek here too. And if you don't use as much as it costs they refund it at the end of the year.

Sainsbury's do free delivery if you spend over £100, if your weekly shop is that kind of level then delivery plans aren't worth it but thankfully ours are not.

HappyHolidays75 · 20/01/2020 22:17

It's win-win.

Delivery saver gives you access to priority booking for Christmas and easter slots.

It also refunds you the difference, if the cost of you slots over 6 months would be cheaper without the delivery saver.

I got a refund of £40 for last 6 months as I dont use it much as I've been doing more aldi/lidl shops, and aim for cheapest slots when I do.

You can't go wrong.

Sierra259 · 20/01/2020 22:19

Another one here who does the midweek delivery saver. It's well worth if you're doing weekly shops.

Rainallnight · 20/01/2020 22:20

I used to have it and for some reason it ended. When I went looking recently, I couldn’t find it - I thought they’d done away with it!

Any tips on where it is on the app? Sorry if I’m being dense.

Florencenotflo · 20/01/2020 22:27

I get the 7 day a week one. Brilliant when you realise late at night you have no bloody food in for dinner the next night 😂 and I can't be arsed dragging a 4 year old and a baby round Tesco.

Yes it is cheaper to shop in Aldi but I'm happy to pay the extra for the convenience! Plus if for any reason you don't use it they refund you that months delivery fee.

Cauliflowerpower · 20/01/2020 22:35

Love mine. I get the every day one very useful for xmas etc. And I pay with my clubcard points. Win win

MiniMum97 · 20/01/2020 22:55

If you are shopping with Tesco all the time you should have enough points to pay for your delivery saver every 6 months. That's what I do.

Ginkypig · 20/01/2020 22:55

It's definitely worth it for me, a Sunday slot Is 5.50 so one week nearly pays for the monthly cost. I get a Sunday delivery every week except Christmas but then only because it comes on a different day.
I sometimes use it at other times too but even without doing that my weekly shop would cost roughly 3+ or more than the saver costs me a month.

januarysickntiredofyou · 21/01/2020 10:31

I did it for 6 months with Clubcard vouchers. I was then charged 24p a month to take it up to the cost of the delivery saver. Plus you get refunded if you would have spent less without delivery saver.
