Ear piercing infection

Wasnt sure where to put this but hopefully someone can help.

I got a second ear piercing in my lobe and helix 6 weeks ago. The helix is healing fine but the lobe one was really sore today so just asked dp to check the back and he said theres lots of blood.

I took the earing out and its a right mess, bleeding lots and gunk (sorry). All cleaned up but now im thinking i shouldnt have taken the piercing out but after 6 weeks it should be ok for a bit shouldnt it?

You should have left it in so it can drain. Use salty cool boiled water to clean it

slipperywhensparticus · 20/01/2020 21:34

Have you put it back in?

Thewalker75 · 20/01/2020 21:36

The hole will close up almost immediately. If you can, clean the earring and put it back, then do what @dementedpixie says. If you bathe it regularly with cooled salt water, it will take the heat out of it and clear up the infection.

Bugger cant get it back in now its really not happy! Knew i should have left it in!

I had been so careful with cleaning it twice a day too

What were you cleaning it with? Were you turning it? (You shouldn't)

Isadora2007 · 20/01/2020 22:01

As others have said and you’ve realised you really should not have removed it as you’ve closed the only route for infection to drain out of... go in the shower and see if the softening action of water will allow you to get it back in. Or get to the Drs tomorrow.

Thewalker75 · 21/01/2020 05:20

I didnt turn it at all, just left it and cleaned using combination of salt water and the spray the piercer gave me (mix of witch hazel and other things).

Gutted as it was absolutely fine until last couple of days i noticed it feeling a bit sore.

Should i really call the dr? Going to try putting earring back in again this morning.

If you left it out over night I highly doubt you’ll get it back in now.... for future reference, there are lots of different antibac/septic etc creams for exactly that purpose (of healing infections as long as mild) that work wonders. I’ve dealt with 14 ear piercings throughout the family, by now I’m a pro!

Fill a bowl with boiled water and add sea salt.

When the salt is dissolved and the water has cooled enough but still warm, place the bowl on the floor on a towel and lie down with your ear in the bowl. Soak your ear for at least ten minutes.

Go back to pierce if you struggle to get it back in dont try to force it.
