What was this I had? - cold, flu or something else?

A few weeks ago I came down with something.

Ached all over like I'd run a marathon ultra / been run over and was feverish, dizzy and had a heavy cold, chesty cough and breathlessness .

Plus curiously developed loads of sores / ulcers in my mouth (ugh).

Has there been some virus / bug thing doing the rounds or was this just garden variety cold+ / flu. (Did have the flu vaccine).

There's no way to tell without tests.

You can have flu that doesn't give you any symptoms you'd notice; you can have a cold that lays you out.

Just give yourself a break and take things easy! I do think there's been something horrible going round FWIW, but whether flu or cold I couldn't say.

Hand foot and mouth?

Sounds like flu to me. Are you prone to mouth ulcers? I am and I get them whenever I'm run down or ill with anything else. I'm so glad I got the flu vaccine in October and my doctor said that's almost certainly the reason I was only knocked out for slightly less than a week instead of it being several weeks

Finally recovered.

Not generally prone to mouth ulcers (other than the occasional one or two when run down). Here it was whole clusters - though nothing on hands and feet - so presumably not hand, foot and mouth (which incidentally I thought was a cattle disease intel I googled it!)
