'Choosing baby's gender' Shettles method - anyone tried it

Posting here for traffic I did post on conception but didn't get a response

Just read a few things about the Shettles method and whether anyone has tried it and been successful for either a boy or a girl

Really curious!!

The idea is that you have sex before ovulation to get a girl and close to ovulation to get a boy - is that right?

I didn't do this deliberately, but I know I had sex a few days before ovulation (because I was using ovulation testing sticks) and then we didn't have sex again for the next few days because DH was away with work.

So according to Shettles it should have been a girl, but it was a boy.

Nonsense.

Boyorgirl0 · 20/01/2020 13:08

@Mandarinfish
Yeah that's it apparently girl sperm are slower (Hmm) I about read it and thought nonsense then some articles saying it worked 90% of the time but clearly from your example it's not the case!
There's some other stuff like eating certain foods or acidic things...

You can't choose your child's gender, it's impossible.

Some people think you can influence what sex they are, I think it's coincidence

MissMatty2hats · 20/01/2020 13:45

After having two boys I was really hoping for a girl ( I felt a bit outnumbered!). I tried that method and it worked for me. Took me a little longer to conceive, three months rather than than falling the first month as I did with the boys. I know it's probably all nonsense but what harm? I knew I wanted a third child and I'd have loved a third boy just as much, but I figured it was worth a try.

dayswithaY · 20/01/2020 14:27

I tried it and it worked but obviously it could have been coincidence or a fluke. You will have to do lots of research and take your temperature first thing every morning to chart your ovulation. Or use ovulation kits. You will have to hold off TTC for a few months while you plot your ovulation then go for it. There is a book by Hazel Chesterman Phillips, you might still get it on Amazon. There is a diet also but not sure what difference that would make.

I thought that Shettles had been replaced with a new ‘kid’ now called O+12. Which is almost the total opposite which I think shows how reliable these are.

I do remember reading that male cyclists are more likely to have girls because of the cycle shorts Grin.

DramaAlpaca · 20/01/2020 14:48

I didn't try this because I wasn't at all bothered about what sex my children were, but I am fairly sure that all of them were conceived on the day I ovulated - all three of them are boys, so that fits the theory perfectly Grin

Boyorgirl0 · 20/01/2020 15:06

That's so hear people saying that it worked for them! Loving the stories

@ShivD never heard of O+12 will have to have a Google Grin

We did the whole thing (diet + timing) trying to have boys.
We had a girl each time. Grin

I used this method for our 4th child, I read up on it carefully beforehand and it seemed to make sense. Gave it a try and it took longer as was avoiding ovulation. Anyway we didn’t find out gender during pregnancy because we wanted a surprise with it being our last baby. When she finally arrived we were overjoyed. Literally could not believe it. Honestly it felt like having a dream come true. She’s a teen now and the most lovely person, she is everything I thought she would be. I remember at a recent sports day we attended, and the sun was shining and she just looked so happy and beautiful, and my husband said, I still can’t believe she’s ours.

BethanyGilbert · 20/01/2020 16:54

@Whengodwasarabbit I hope you feel the same about your three boys Hmm

Waxonwaxoff0 · 20/01/2020 17:04

Load of rubbish. If it "worked" it's just a coincidence, it's a 50/50 chance what sex a baby will be so it's not like it's going against huge odds.
