Endoscopy without sedation - experiences?

Having a last minute panic over an endoscopy. I know I have the option of sedation but really don't want it so was planning on going without.

Having now read some horror stories, am I being stupid not taking the offer of sedation? I know it won't be much fun but will it be painful? There will be a biopsy taken too.

Hopefully someone will be able to tell me that it will all be fine!

Well done OP. Glad it went well.

I chose not to have sedation too for similar reasons. It isn’t always as simple as just choosing sedation, I couldn’t stay there for four hours nor magic up a lift home, work, kids, school

danadas - well done indeed! I hope the result of the investigations is that you can have some suitable treatment to relieve your symptoms.

My mum has had this without sedation several times and says don't do it.

She did it because her appointments always seem to come up late afternoon and they prefer not to sedate as it's quicker and they can get away on time/not as late as they would if you were sedated. One time she said it was ok because the doctor really knew what they were doing. The other twice it wasn't. Even if it inconveniences them, get the sedation.
