Does no one stop to consider how hurtful they are?

'Oooh, I know a lady who met the love of her live in her 50s'
great, but I'm 29, are you assuming I won't meet someone for another 20 years?!

'It'll happen when you least expect it!'
As if I lurk round corners with a net for an eligible bachelor

'I was about to delete Tinder and then I went on my third date- now we're married!'
Girl, you don't even know how many times I've deleted it and reinstalled it... not helpful

I've always been single (I'm 49, BTW) and most people of any significance know this. So, it doesn't get mentioned very often. When it does, I just say to the enquirer that I've simply been very unlucky, or am terminally unpopular. It's usually enough to end the topic but I get that it must be hurtful for some folk.

Oooooh, you should try online dating

It'll happen when you stop looking

Both statements are absolute bollocks Smile

HelloCanYouHearMe · 18/01/2020 21:38

Stop looking and it'll happen

Pipandmum · 18/01/2020 21:39

'When are you going to do something about being single'?

Freshprincess · 18/01/2020 21:56

'Why are you single?' What are you supposed to say to that? 'I'm a boring old fucker and a bit ugly?'

WildRosie · 18/01/2020 22:03

Fresh. The answer is, "Why are you still married?", provided you're feeling suitably bitchy.

I am long term single by choice and I'm sick to death of being asked if I've been on any dates/met someone yet.

No matter how many times I tell people I have chosen to be on my own and I am not going on dates or looking for a partner, they still don't seem to believe it.

INeedNewShoes · 18/01/2020 22:13

"Ooh you're off out tonight - maybe you'll meet someone!'

Couldn't stand this. I just wanted to go and have a nice evening out; then someone would load the evening with expectation of me meeting someone Hmm

One of the wonderful side effects of having a baby on my own (by choice) is that people have stopped saying stupid stuff like this because they assume I've given up trying on the relationship front.

You should adopt/ get a sperm donor and have IVF, because you'd make such a good mum. Angry

JacquesHammer · 18/01/2020 22:20

“never say never”.

I always say it back to them. They tend not to like it.
