A 6 year old missing on school trip- why isn’t this on every news show and headline?

He vanished from Newport Pagnell services last night on the way home from a school day our to London.

Thankfully he has been found safe and well.

My blood ran cold when I read that this morning - thank god he’s been found!

The amount of school trips my son goes on. It’s every parents worst nightmare!

Where was he found?

I couldn’t sleep last night after seeing a post shared by a friend on SM. I agree it’s had hardly any publicity. So relieved he’s been found safe and well, poor little chap.

I’m a teacher and this is why I hate taking kids on trips. I spend the whole day on high alert, counting and recounting kids and end up up utterly exhausted. Everyone’s worst nightmare.

It's wonderful he's been found, but I notice they dont say where he was found. 9 hours is a long time and anything could have happened. That poor boy.

Usually it’s because the police know more.
It isn’t just because of racism as people assume. The police may know
Exactly where he is but then obviously they can’t make everyone aware of info that would hinder an investigation. However people who have been questioned etc so it will hit the news. So they have to balance releasing info . It’s a delicate situation.

He was found sitting by roadworks at 4am?

Like imagine a child involved in a difficult custody case for example. This happens a lot.

I think if he hadn't been found before morning it would have been all over the news.

I think I read that 1 child goes missing every 5 minutes in the U.K..
So, a missing child doesn’t usually make headlines unless the police think it will help the case.

@plan isn’t most of those in custody cases though? A child who’s gone missing on a school trip for that length of time surely isn’t as common?

But in this case it does seem he just wandered off.

Disagree. One child every 5 minutes go missing. Lots of white English girls have gone missing when this boy did.....

He was found further up the M1. He’s been spotted walking next to the exit ramp on services. They’d shut the motorway and asked all helpers to go home so they could use thermal imaging to locate him. Amazing job by police and rescue.

It's weird that he was apparently on a school trip and went missing at 7:15pm. It doesn't add up.
The good news is, he's found. But my kids, at age 6, were never on school trips at dinner time. And no school trip ever involved stopping in at a service station. Also, he's from Nottingham. What kind of school trip was this? Odd.

It's not always in the best interests of the missing child to have it all over the media. The police will decide if and when it should be made public, and normally that is done on a local scale first, often through social media.

That is amazing.

I havent seen this story and have no idea of the circumstances but I do know that in a lot of the stories shared on FB about missing children, there whereabouts are known, they're just not where the family (or part of the family) think they should be.

I think a 6yo genuinely missing, as in no one as a clue, would have had all manpower thrown at it.

If it’s custody cases of parental kidnapping, isn’t the child then considered not to be missing but kidnapped?

I’m pretty sure they said the missing children they were mostly run away from home children. As in truly no one knows where they are (until they are found). Yes this case was probably not that common and that’s probably why it was in the news at all. Most cases don’t get in the news at all.
