How much sleep does your 4-year-old get?

Dd is almost 4 and has recently been going to sleep later and later. It used to be 7.30 for 8, but now every night is a battle and she usually doesn't get to sleep till nearer nine.
She wakes up naturally between 7 and 7.30 every morning.

I'm worried she's not getting enough sleep though. Could she be overtired in the evening?

How much sleep are your equivalent-aged children getting please?

Generally online recommends 10-13 hrs per night for a 4 year old. With some needing as little as 8hrs, and some 14hrs.

So if she sleeps 9pm-7am she is still getting 10 hours, more if she sleeps until 7.30am.

I wouldn't worry too much if like you say, she is naturally waking int he mornings so must had had enough.

We have to get ours up at 6:30 for heart meds. And he’s in bed for about 7:30-7:45. So considering yours gets up a wee while later I’d say it’s pretty normal.

Around 11 hours or so. Roughly 1930 - 0630.

He goes to sleep about 8pm if we're lucky and is usually up before 6am. He usually has a nap of an hour or two in the afternoon.

Ours is at school so should be exhausted but sleeps 7-6 on a good night, but still wakes a lot in the night, often up for 2 hours at 3am

Your 4-year-old naps, @tiedy? You lucky thing! Dd hasn't napped since she was 2.

DS (nearly 4) is pretty consistent 9/9.30-7.30 so 10-10 1/2h. Hasn't napped for about a year.

Youngest is nearly 4. He usually goes to sleep around 9pm and usually sleeps until 8.30/9am. I know many think he should be in bed asleep by 7 but the later bedtime works for him and I’m happy to go with it, before bed he plays quietly with his brothers/looks at books etc

yummychoccy · 18/01/2020 12:40

10 hours is normal.

My nearly 4yo usually does around 10.5 hours: 730-6ish.

definitelyshouldknowbetter · 18/01/2020 12:57

About 7/730 till 630/7 here, he’s ok on that but could do less but by 7 I’m ready for him to go to bedGrin

My DS is generally asleep by 8pm and up around 7am. However, he has two older brothers and they sometimes keep him up or wake him early! The eldest (9) has never needed much sleep and is usually last asleep (10 pm some nights despite an earlier bedtime) and first up!

MinnieMountain · 18/01/2020 14:45

10 hours at that age.

FancyPants20 · 18/01/2020 17:44

Thanks all. So, seems like I shouldn't worry about her only getting ten hours. And maybe we'll shift the evening around a bit so half eight bedtimes become the norm rather than a lost battle.
Thanks again.

My 4.5 year old sleeps 7-8am, would sleep longer if allowed! They are all different.
