Anyone live in Jersey?

We are considering a move to Jersey, does anyone live there and have any advice for us? Family of 4, kids 3 and 5. Is it claustrophobic? What's the lifestyle like? Does it make up for the lack of opportunities to easily get away for the weekend, or visit a museum etc?

I have a lot of family in Jersey.
It is very difficult just to up sticks and move there. They have very strict residence requirements. You have to have a certain amount of capital if you want to buy (think millionaire type capital), and if you are renting there would only be certain (expensive) properties you would be allowed to rent. Unless of course you already have residence rights?
As for living there - well, I have spent a lot of time there and I find it very crowded in the summer (obviously for a holiday island only 9 by 5 miles); it's worse than Cornwall! But then I like countryside with wide open spaces and little traffic. Fat chance of that there.
There is no nhs either, but then on the good side there is no inheritance tax, but, really, you need to look and see whether you qualify for residency first.

I lived there for a couple of years on a work secondment, albeit a long time ago (2005-2007). I loved it and would love to retire there, although as PP said unless you get a J cat through work it’s difficult/expensive to buy property there.

I didn’t have DC at the time and ‘got off the rock’ regularly by travelling back to the UK as DH was still in London. I’m told the schools are brilliant and it’s a super safe environment. The way of life was far less hectic and there was always plenty going on, you do tend to bump into people you know when you’d rather not. Seeing clients when I was hungover on a Sat morning in the supermarket wasn’t ideal!

The people are lovely, restaurants amazing, beaches beautiful, and great tax breaks! Highly recommended by me!

Thanks! I do have residence rights as I was born and bred but left when I was 18 so never lived there as an adult. Loved it as a child though.
