Anyone else have off weeks at work?

Im normally good at my job, I'm given multiple complicated projects to work on because of my reputation and in appraisals receive praise for my work. However I have had an absolutely shocking two weeks at work since returning from Christmas. I have no idea why but I'm making stupid mistakes completing simple tasks. It's been noticed by the office. I spoke to my manager today and put my hands up and said I apologise, not sure what's happened but acknowledge I've been shit etc (obviously more constructive than that). She basically said she agreed it had been a crap two weeks but knew I always performed above expectation.

Does anyone else have weeks like this? I just can't put my finger on what's gone wrong. I know I'm in for a weekend of work related anxiety about others knowing I've been shit. Just wondered if it's normal to drop the ball sometimes.

I have bad days and good days, never a week at a time. If it happens to be a bad day on a Friday then I do have a weekend of anxiety, or spending my leisure time trying to fix what went wrong & feeling even worse by Monday.

It sounds like you’ve done the right thing by speaking to your manager early on. Try to relax this weekend, get a good night’s sleep on Sunday, go in early & start afresh Flowers

I’m a housekeeper. I have never broken anything on the estate that I work for. Came back from my Xmas break and Broke two very expensive cups. Every day I go past them and handle them fine. Yet in a week I smashed two and broke a mirror.
Luckily my boss is lovely or that could have been an expensive mistake.
I’m now officially scared to touch anything. It’s a grade two listed building. I don’t want to do any further damage Grin

I have months! High pressure jobs, highs and lows.

I get runs like this, no mistakes for months and then 3 in a week Confused

I get like this. Our photocopier went berserk on Monday and I was behind all week as a result.

I might get flamed for this but sometimes I take things home or go in for an another day, start from the beginning and get it all sorted.

All the time! Make sure you're looking after yourself and focus on the next play, not the one just gone.

Thanks everyone, it's really reassuring to hear it's not just me! I honestly can't put my finger on what's gone wrong but Monday is a new week!! My working environment can be very bitchy towards the 'weakest link' which I think makes me feel worse!

Are you sure it isn't self-perpetuating?

Monday isn't a new week, it's just one day.

I mean, if you go in on Monday, and fairly early in the morning something goes wrong or you make a mistake, do you think to yourself "Oh no, it's going to be one of those weeks this week" - so your mindset is all wrong from then on?

Maybe you are overthinking it a bit. I hash things up fairly often sometimes, but the frustration or annoyance with myself is gone by the end of my coffee or lunch break. Try and train yourself to not think about work at all when you're not there. I switch off completely the minute I walk out the door.

No currently working but was at CEO level till I retired. I went through months on end when literally getting through a day without some major balls up was a huge triumph. If something actually went well I went into shock it was so rare. It happens to everyone x

Hard to achieve but try not to think about it so you get a proper brain break at the weekend. Sometimes the brain just needs to stop and rest.
