In simple steps how do I add my sons phone to mine so I can find his phone.

You need to give a bit more info. What app are you planning on using for a start. Is it the basic find my phone (either iPhone or android) or something like life 360

Set up family sharing, there's location sharing as well as a whole load of other parental controls (should you need them)

We have family sharing but it seems to he linked to his old iPad not his iPhone.
