Where to live in Manchester

Hello everyone,

I am moving to Manchester from London and need advice on where to live?

My husband and I will be working in manchester city center, and so would like somewhere with good public transport links and also hopefully a place that isn’t too far from chester as that’s where our parents are based.

We are used to a thriving city with lots going on. Love yoga, art, good food, going to the farmers market and hanging out with interesting, open minded people. So ideally not a footballers wives type area :p

We are tying for a baby so would like somewhere with young parents and baby groups for when the time hopefully comes.

Our budget is around 450.

Would love to hear your thoughts!

Didsbury village or West Didsbury.

FainaSnowChild · 17/01/2020 16:29

Urmston, parts of Stretford, more or less anywhere in Trafford but avoid Hale Barns if you don't like footballers wives. Chorlton. Didsbury, but not East Didsbury so much. Heaton Moor.

Heaton Moor or Mersey. What you want for 450?

Saddleworth

Knutsford is lovely, but might be a bit pricy.

We live in Saddleworth which ticks all of your boxes. My in laws live near Chester and it's a really easy journey from ours too.

Chorlton, Sale, Altrincham

bookish83 · 17/01/2020 16:58

Didsbury, Altrincham, Sale, Knutsford and surrounding area.

North Manchester: Monton, Worsley, Prestwich

All tick the types of boxes you mentioned in varying ways. Commutes and house prices will be different ish though all around your price bracket.

Lots of lovely rural places further out (North Bury, Stockport way) too

Ramsbottom

Knutsford is lovely if you're driving in.

Didsbury or Cheadle.

JMAngel1 · 17/01/2020 17:25

Chorlton, Gatley or West Didsbury - 450 would get you a decent 3 bed semi.
Chorlton would be your kind of people the most, specifically around Beech Road.

Sale, good tram line to the city centre and altrincham and also close to M60/M56 to get to Chester

I found this property on the Rightmove Android app and wanted you to see it: www.rightmove.co.uk/s6p/83414579

JMAngel1 · 17/01/2020 17:45

That's a great price for a lot of house - Chorltonville/Gatley/West Dids may be more pricey.
