Any Alexa experts? Is ours possessed- what’s going on?

We have two Alexas (one in teen sons room, one in tween daughters room)
But as expected they were a waste of money as in the 13 months we’ve had them they are very rarely used.

Anyway. About 3 weeks ago around 8am the one in my DS room randomly started playing ‘welcome to the jungle’ by guns n roses really loud.
Both kids were fast asleep when it happened so it wasn’t them. And it wasn’t me.
We were puzzled??

Fast forward to just now. Kids at school. I am cleaning when suddenly around 9.45 ish my DS Alexa starts blasting out the same song again.

Can anyone shed any light as to why that happened?
My son definitely doesn’t use it as an alarm and as he’s barely touched it I can’t imagine he would know how to set one. Also it’s doubtful he would be aware of guns n roses or that song.

Have any of his friends been round over the Christmas holidays?

MiseryChops · 17/01/2020 10:25

He has had friends round yes.
What might they have done? Told it a random date and time to play that particular song?

Is your house detatched or a semi? Just wondering if it's been connected to the neighbours.

Check for routines or reminders in the Alexa app. Ask Alexa what's your next reminder and/or what's in your calendar.

mnahmnah · 17/01/2020 10:31

Whoever connects the app on their phone to that Alexa can control it remotely. I like to annoy my husband when I’m out by playing Chas and Dave’s ‘Rabbit’ Blush

Could your neighbours or DC’s friends be doing that?

GetUpAgain · 17/01/2020 10:34

It's an intruder alert craze. Google 'Alexa welcome to the jungle'. I reckon your son or his friends have set it up.

Newyeardietstartstomorrow · 17/01/2020 10:38

Have look in your Alexa app to see if anything has been set up, ie alarms / reminders. Also check your drop in list to make sure there is no one there outside of your household.

MiseryChops · 17/01/2020 10:44

I have the app on my DD phone but I’m 99.99% sure she won’t have done it.

So perhaps his friends have said it to the Alexa?

But why such a random date and time 🤔

Oh and definitely it neighbours.
Either side of me it’s a single elderly person who still uses home phones (I know as I can hear when it they ring!)
So no way do they have alexas

I have a home phone and an Alexa! I would tell it to cancel any alarms that have been set

wowfudge · 17/01/2020 13:09

My nearly 100 year old great auntie had an Alexa. And a landline phone. And she used to Skype from her laptop!
