Anyone watching this ? I’m surprised how much I’m enjoying it. The ‘kids’ are actually really inspirational and I’ve shed a few tears at various points !

I loved it! Though it's so dangerous!

Footiefan2019 · 16/01/2020 21:17

@codenamevillanelle yay a fellow watcher. Yes seems surprisingly dangerous and the coaches seem very unbothered by injury.

I'm watching it again right now. All the people are amazing

I wonder how the health and safety aspect comes into it with the younger kids that they’ve shown a few snipets of - there seems to be 9/10 year olds doing high level stuff, so would they encourage ‘pushing through pain’ with that age group? Or are they softer with them?!

Absolutely love this. I’m obsessed. Watched it twice already!

I think they are all a credit to the sport, really eye opening documentary. All just lovely positive people. I especially found Morgan’s and Jerry’s stories incredibly inspirational. How they all cope with so much pressure stepping in at the last minute is unbelievable. I was so nervous watching the competition at the end!

Dazedandconfused10 · 16/01/2020 21:19

Omg. It's like a real life bring it on with out the spirit stick. Loved it

Tinnedpeachesandcream · 16/01/2020 21:20

OMG I loved it-watched it all in two days flat. Really inspirational stuff but dear god the thwack sound that they make when they drop one of them!!!! Made me wince every time!

Footiefan2019 · 16/01/2020 21:21

I couldn’t believe how much Morgan had been through. What a tough upbringing l. I actually felt myself quite angry when they showed her dad, even though I don’t even know these people ! Her face when Monica spoke to her just looked so eager to please and so happy that she was being given attention. Heartbreaking.

I know, I just wanted to give her a cuddle. I felt so bad when Sherbs dislocated her arm! But the way Morgan stepped up was incredible. The injuries they get are scary but I thought they were as well looked after as they could be. It’s like when you’re at the highest level of any sport- like gymnastics- so much risk for injuries.

I love the coach- she didn’t seem like a lot of the typical crazy coaches that usually appear on these types of shows (dance moms!). She actually cared about them all as individuals. I hope there will be a season 2!

BeardofZeus · 16/01/2020 21:40

I’ve only watched one episode but I’ve learnt a fair amount about cheerleading, which led me down a YouTube rabbit hole!!

Haybo26 · 16/01/2020 21:42

I watched it. Gripping! Fascinating! What dedication those kids and Monica gave. Inspiring to day the least. Go Navaros!!

MrsSwears2Much · 16/01/2020 21:42

Loved this documentary! In awe of these athletes. So incredible Star

NicelyStarched · 16/01/2020 21:44

I loved Jerry and Morgan.

Couldn’t decide if Monica was incredible or psychopathic- that bit when she made the boy with the back injury do the routine anyway Shock

And the scary fall when Sherbs was fired through the air despite no one being there to catch her! How that girl got up again was beyond me!

IHaveBrilloHair · 16/01/2020 21:44

Absolutely loved it, totally fell in love with Jerry.

Tinnedpeachesandcream · 16/01/2020 22:00

I totally get why she did it though, she’d warned him not to compete with the other team and he did it anyway and got himself injured. They get scholarships to college for being on the cheerleading programme so they’re supposed to put it first. She was teaching him a pretty brutal lesson, it was quite hard to watch! I loved her, thought she was ace.

Ffsnosexallowed · 16/01/2020 22:01

Loved it!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 16/01/2020 22:02

There was another thread on this, and I commented on that that I found it quite telling that many of the young people on her squad were parentless/looking for a mother figure.

Much easier to manipulate when they are vulnerable... I thought

ChipsAreLife · 16/01/2020 22:06

Loved it!!! Got soft spots for Morgan and Jerry, especially Morgan what a terrible childhood.

I really like Monica, she ties that line of form and fair.

Gabi's parents are thirsty for that money! When she told her to just eat a jackfruit for 12 hours?! WTF she's training!!!

20viona · 16/01/2020 22:06

I binged this in one day I loved it! They are so bloody strong.

HoHoHomeTimeFinally · 16/01/2020 22:54

I watched it all in one day Blush Absolutely loved it, I can’t believe how brutal it was and how hard they work. I was way too emotionally involved with who got on mat. Loved Monica but did think she could be a bit cold. Definitely thought Sherbs accident wasn’t too accidental...

Cried at Jerry’s story and Morgan just broke my heart. Loved Lexi too, saw on her instagram she’s back with the Navaro’s. Felt sorry for Gabi, i felt it wasn’t truly what she wants and her parents were weird

Footiefan2019 · 16/01/2020 23:15

I feel like Gabi would flourish at Uni for a solid two or three years, with a good group of friends and real independence.

Or coaching her own team, with an apartment and her own responsibilities and everything that comes with it.

Not traveling the country doing coaching to 9 year olds who want selfies, with an overbearing mum and dad telling her how to wash her underwear properly?! She is 22 years old?!

Also thought that her sister was bubbling with resentment about her being left behind.

It's 4:30am am I'm awake, rotten cold, big day at work ahead of me. But I'm more than ok because you lot recommended Cheer. Sitting in the lounge with a lemsip having a marvellous time. Thank y'all so much! Am ten minutes into the first episode and totally hooked.

HaggardMumofToddler · 17/01/2020 09:42

No I don’t agree at all. These kids have been cheerleading for many years, cheerleading is their dream and she is helping them achieve it. Yes she is a mother figure to them but I don’t believe she is exploiting them at all- you can tell how much they want to be there.

LutherRalph1 · 17/01/2020 09:45

I loved it

There's one called cheer squad also on Netflix which is a few years older

HaggardMumofToddler · 17/01/2020 09:45

Gabi’s parents though! Awful. It’s all about the money for them. I was shocked when she was told not to eat. I agree she obviously a very intelligent girl, hard working and talented. She’d be very successful at uni or coaching. I think she does want to do something and not follow the whole social media money making thing.
