I made a bad error of judgement at work, which could have resulted in injuring a child. I would, quite rightly, have been in serious trouble. Fortunately it has been accepted as an accident with no repercussions for me.

But I know that I made a mistake. an avoidable mistake. And I cannot get past it. I get sudden swings of heart-pounding "WTF DID YOU DO?" anxiety.

The situation is over and I need to get past it and get on with life. How do I do this?

I'm not a HCP, BTW.

I think you just have to try and mentally file it under 'learning experience'.
Nothing bad happened, nothing will happen as a result, other than you will learn from it and not make the same mistake again.
It's a horrible feeling (and I am a HCP!) but everyone makes mistakes-it's the learning you take from it that counts.
