Mine saying I have saved £199 this month! Shock
Last night was hard - DH out and ds was a pain going to bed so didn't get my relaxing bath until after 10pm

Good point though was when DH asked if it was ok for me to give him a lift to the pub at 20 to 8 I was happy to say yes. Pre DJ I would have been resenting that as it would make the start of my drinking a couple of hours late BlushConfused

Natsku · 25/01/2020 11:44

Mine says I've saved 114 euros so far but I have extra bills this month so it's all going on that sigh

AdaKirkby · 25/01/2020 12:12

Also, I’ve discovered a sweet treat that doesn’t have too many cals in:

Meringue nest - 53 cal
Vanilla Kvarg- 90 cal
Fruit (I used frozen cherries) - 50 cal

DSIL introduced me to it last night. It was very nice and about the same calories as one glass of wine, the sugar and dairy in it meant that 1 portion was satisfying.

Breathmiller · 25/01/2020 16:34

That sounds lovely AdaKirkby
I love cherries.

I've just found a good thick cream alternative and I have always meant to try making meringues from aquafaba ao I think I will try this

myhandsareverycold · 25/01/2020 16:42

I will save over £300 per month not drinking £3600 a year!

Went out for lunch today to a lovely fish restaurant. I had fizzy water! Would have preferred a glass bottle of Chablis but I survived just fine.

Last weekend for most! Next week at this time.

AdaKirkby · 25/01/2020 16:48

@Breathmiller

I’ve really struggled with sugar cravings. I think I was unknowingly satisfying my sweet tooth with wine before DJ.

Breathmiller · 25/01/2020 16:53

AdaKirkby me too.
My husband finds my sugar addiction strange because i always had a savoury salt preference- but that was with wine!! So I always had the sugar craving too it was just in liquid form.

He does sometimes look at me with a teenytiny bit judgement when I want pudding or sweets again and I have to remind him he's sitting with a beer in his hand! Sugar in a glass!

Nowombattheinn · 25/01/2020 17:28

Nearly there (thank god!) well done everyone getting here, would be so easy to give in at this point but more calories and £s saved. Saturday is the only time I miss it, think I’ll put the bottle for next Saturday in the fridge tomorrow, knowing it’s there is something to look forward to. Also yes I agree with pp who said the shine has worn off at this stage!

AdaKirkby · 25/01/2020 18:07

I’m going to watch the film someone mentioned on the other thread - Wild. With a portion of my new healthy (ish) meringue pudding.

I think the shine has gone off too but we’re so close to the end that I would kick myself if I drank now. That said I am looking forward to a glass of wine, next Saturday.

GreyGardens88 · 25/01/2020 18:56

Almost made the decision to cave this afternoon and buy a bottle of something on the way home. Luckily I managed to give my head a wobble and drop that idea. I've come this far and tonight is the last hurdle. So i'm downing the Becks Blue and we're getting a takeaway later Smile I also need to get up early tomorrow to do a hobby of mine, and if I drink tonight I will be in no mood for that tomorrow.

Natsku · 25/01/2020 19:22

Also almost caved today but so close to the end now. Next Friday will be hard, but knowing I will have a herd of 8 year olds in my house for DD's birthday party the next day will hopefully keep me away from the booze!

dementedma · 25/01/2020 19:49

Still AF here. Been difficult while in London on a break, but hanging on.

nibdedibble · 25/01/2020 20:07

We are all fantastic. No caving. Brew

myhandsareverycold · 25/01/2020 20:36

Is anyone else finding they are more productive? I've just put away all the laundry and deep cleaned the kitchen. On a Saturday night. Unheard of!

SegregateMumBev · 25/01/2020 23:01

I’m just in from my Burns supper. DH has been home alone. He’s slurring his words, split his drink on the floor and didn’t know where the dog was. A reminder to us all what can happen too easily!

milliefiori · 25/01/2020 23:07

Went out for dinner otnight and had an AF beer. Realised that I still have loads of energy despite having spent all morning spring cleaning and all afternoon at work on an intensive project. Definitely noticing the benefits now, even if, sadly, they don't include wieght loss.

SylviaC · 25/01/2020 23:16

Hmmm. Had a slip late last night. Not too bad but something that it has highlighted to me is that sloping off to spare room to watch catch up TV is a bad idea. Have decided to avoid that from now on. Will stay in lounge or go to bed.

Have been out for meal tonight to a restaurant with no drink licence plus was driving so am back in the sober zone.

SylviaC · 25/01/2020 23:18

Slip involved whisky brought home by DH from Burns night do. Flippin Burns Night

JamieFrasersSassenach · 25/01/2020 23:48

I haven't posted since the beginning of Jan - I have been amazed at how easy it has been so far - but I am really worried about the end of next week. Getting to the end of January and going into February will be very hard psychologically for me - I think January has been so easy because I've told all and sundry that I am doing dry Jan - because I don't want to say out loud that I want to stop drinking altogether - aargh - knowing I can stop for a month makes me feel like I could just have the odd drink, despite years of experience proving otherwise ConfusedConfused

SegregateMumBev · 26/01/2020 07:31

Day 26: This will wake you up! Works for this week on so many levels.

Dry January 2020 thread 2... keeping it dry!
Breathmiller · 26/01/2020 08:34

Haha. Love it. Thanks segregate

Last week for some. Well really hopefully last week for us all.
Even for those of us that choose to have a drink on Saturday or going forward or whether we carry on for a bit through February or indefinitely.
Hopefully this has been helpful in supporting us all to change habits in the way we approach drinking.

Well done and thank you everyone

milliefiori · 26/01/2020 08:45

That's brilliant Bev ! Grin

milliefiori · 26/01/2020 08:48

@JamieFrasersSassenach - my plan is to drink a bit socially in Feb and then do Dry Lent and also Sober October. The more you do it, the more people get used to you not drinking and then you can just be the one who has a tonic with no gin in it when you go out.

I'm also starting to build a social life around things that involve no drinking - outdfoor hobbies and evening classes. I meet friends for walks and coffees now, so there's only a few occasions - dinners or parties - when the issue ofsocial drinking comes up.

MaudesMum · 26/01/2020 09:03

So much of it is habit and learned behaviour, isn't it? And the good thing about this month is that it gives us a chance to re-set behaviour and find new habits. I went out to dinner on Friday night - it was a drive away for all of us, so some had one glass of wine, and some (like me) didn't - all absolutely fine. And then driving home, I kept finding myself thinking "I'll just have a little whisky when I get in, it won't do any harm". And I realised that was its what I've done a lot before after similar evenings - "rewarded myself" with a drink at the end of the day for being social without a drink. Which is a bit weird, when you think of it. So, I had a nice cup of herbal tea instead.

Natsku · 26/01/2020 11:07

I'm planning on doing Lent too and then maybe November (rather than October as my birthday is in October, plus would be good to do a dry month right before Christmas to hopefully lessen my festive drinking)
