Me waking up at 4am insomnia issues

Anyone got any advice? I think 7 years of my son coming into my bed in the night has caused issues with night waking (in me not him!).

I go to bed around 10, asleep by 10.30 most nights. Then wake at 4am!!! Listen to a podcast or something very droney to get me back to sleep but it can take up to 1 - 1.5hrs.

This then pushes me into a deep sleep that's still going when it's time to get up at 7,30am which makes life very difficult and the first hours of the day hard going.

Does anyone have tips or tricks who has had similar? I have thought about getting up at 4am and staying up, but get the feeling I would be exhausted later in the morning / day if I did this and it's so horrible getting up at that time!!! I do wonder if it would make me more productive though, or just miserable...

Thanks all! :)

That sounds like you are getting enough sleep even if it is broken.
We only need 7 to 8 hours to function the next day.

I know roisina, my main issue is my circadian rhythms are not working for me e.g. I'm in a deep slumber and can't wake up when I need to due to the broken sleep, and this really impacts my day, leaving me sluggish etc

I had very similar problems, I think that the only solution really is to try going to sleep a couple of hours later in the evening so that you can wake at a more reasonable time, I shifted my bedtime along by 1/2 hr every other night until I got to a time that suited. Hope this helps
