General anaesthetic and a cold...

I'm due to go under the knife tomorrow morning, and I've had a cold coming on steadily over the last few days

I don't feel dreadful, I'm just quite snotty (sorry!) and I've got a dry, tickly cough.

How bad does a cold need to be before my op is postponed? I'm really worried.

Usually if you've got a temperature or chest infection. Wouldn't have thought a cold is a problem

Depends on how you are, what is planned & urgency of surgery.

Temperature is a big red flag as is actually looking unwell.

Risk of GA increases with acute respiratory tract infection & for 6 weeks afterwards.

Best person to make the call is the anaesthetist tomorrow.
