Anyone tecchy - need to change child’s passcode without wiping it

Thanks in advance. Just found out my daughter is being bullied Sad

I check her iPod regularly, she knows I do this as she’s only 10. I know some of her “friends” message her using iCloud and Instagram (I know 13 but the account is locked and private and I have to have it for her to message her father a different issue Hmm).

When I found out about the bullying yesterday I went to check it last night and the passcode isn’t working. She’s saying it’s the same, it isn’t, it’s now disabling when I try.

She won’t cave, I can’t give it back which feels like I’m punishing her for being bullied which feels shit but I can’t let her have it to “wipe” evidence I need to know.

So while she’s at school is there any way I can get into the damn thing? Or her messages? She’s on my iCloud account as parental if that helps?

As far as i know, nope i think you even need the passcode to back it up to prevent data loss. Apple are quite strict about privacy

Can you pop into an Apple Store?

OldTownRoadHome · 14/01/2020 08:13

Dammit that’s what I thought. Sadly no, we are in the sticks so Apple is a good hour away. Could try in London on Thursday when I’m there for work if they open late maybe, depends on childcare.

Bumping for you just in case!

Can you plug it into a lap top. You need to do this a certain way! Google you tube for disabled passcode and follow the steps.

It can take a few goes so don’t give up!

And if going into an Apple store they will probably give you time to come back to see their Tech guys. it's not (usually) a just turn up and get to speak to someone, unfortunately.

iMatter · 15/01/2020 18:25

I don't think they'll help you unfortunately. They'll only have your word for it that it's your 10 year old daughter's.

I think you'll have to wait until she caves.

Do you know if the iPod data and settings is automatically backed up? If so can't you factory reset the iPod then download all the contents from iCloud? Not sure if that is possible though......
