Primary application. HELP my unorganised self!

So I’m an unorganised nightmare of a mother and still haven’t done application and deadline Wednesday. We hope to move to across the country soon but not sold yet so no address in new location. So have to apply in current location. I hate the school in our catchment. We’re close to other schools so I’m going to put them all down. But what do I write in the social reasons box? Be honest That I hate the school in my catchment? Or make some shit up?

A big part of my is thinking it doesn’t matter as we will leave soon. But a little voice is saying what if you don’t move. What if it all goes working and you have to stay and she ends up in a terrible school.

Don’t get me started on the anxiety of getting her in a nice school after we move..

Nobody reads it so don't bother.

BendingSpoons · 13/01/2020 11:13

You have to have a really strong reason supported by evidence e.g. the child is adopted. Otherwise there is no point, they will just follow the admissions criteria and allocate based on location etc.

inwood · 13/01/2020 11:17

agree with @KnifeAngel unless you have a very strong reason eg LAC or PLAC. The admissions criteria will be followed to the letter.

Yes, don't worry about the box. Basically unless you have reasons that are listed I the admission criteria none of the rest of it makes any difference.

Glittercandle · 13/01/2020 11:26

Make sure you have at least one choice that you know she’s guaranteed to get into. If you are not in catchment for any of choices you may be allocated one that’s awful and a pain to get too.

doritosdip · 13/01/2020 11:29

Most people don't have social reasons so leave blank. People who do write things like they are a police officer so need a school away from families that they deal with. Not liking the schools isn't a reason that will get you anywhere.

TeenPlusTwenties · 13/01/2020 12:22

You don't need to write a reason.

Please consider putting awful catchment school down in last place. Better an awful school on your doorstep than an equally awful school 10 miles away. Check the 'last distance offered' info for your other schools. If there is a no-hoper then throw it out.

Get the application in on time

Thanks for the replies. I won’t worry about that then.

So if she doesn’t get into any of the schools I down they’ll just chuck her anywhere?

Three of my 4 choices are within a mile. And one is a village school just out of town.

There are 6 schools within a mile of my house. 3 ok 3 I don’t want her to go to at all Totally didn’t think this through when we brought a house in desperation 4 years ago.

I think I’m going to take my chances and hope for the best and if we don’t get any choices worry about it in April. All fingers crossed we will have moved by then or September at least!

Yes

Alwayswithalacrity · 13/01/2020 14:19

If She doesn’t get a place out of the choices you put down, she will be allocated the physically nearest school with places using the LA‘S distance from home to school calculation

megletthesecond · 13/01/2020 14:23

Make sure your last choice is an almost dead cert catchment banker. Better to end up at a crap school on the doorstep than a crap school across town.
