Gumtree etiquette

I am trying to sell a sofa bed on gumtree. It's in good condition and we're selling it cheaply as we need it gone.
What is the etiquette when you receive messages from multiple people? Just speak to the first one until they decide either way, then move to the second one? How long do you give them if they aren't replying before moving on? I don't want to be rude but also can't wait ages for people to reply to me.

Also why do people send multiple messages in quick succession? In the time I've typed this paragraph I've had notifications about four messages from the same person
"Hi I'm interested"
"Is this still available"
"Hello??"
"Can I have your phone number please?"
He's not given me anytime to reply to him, and I'm obviously not going to give out my number!

Don't wait! Contact all who contact you and then the first who wants to come and buy it gets it. The multiple messages are sometimes automatic things and some people get confused on their mobiles.

Go with the first person who makes a concrete arrangement for collection.
