Security company or DIY with smart technology?

Came from a flat to a detached house, a lot more conscious about security.
Do we need to get a security company to come and out in a proper alarm system/cameras? Or with things like ring door bell and door sensors so the lights come on when a door is opened work? Currently have HIVE heating with Alexa and all the lights, so think there are options to link this in?
Also one door as a thumb turner not a key, I’m thinking someone can just reach through the letter box? Or smash the window and turn it? I’ve seen thumb turner guards but now can’t find them.

How much should I be looking to spend and what kind of level of security would you have?

Get rid of the thumb turner , we were burgled and they let themselves out this way !

I think I’m going to have to get a company, very sorry to we’re burgled. Did they come in via the thumb turner?
I think I felt safe before and don’t here, and I can’t work out why, maybe as it’s easier/more isolated and the perceived wealth we must have to live here?
