Gluten and anxiety?

GP told me to try stopping gluten for a bit (not coeliac from blood test, but suspected intolerance/IBS type symptoms) and I've done it for 2 weeks so far. It has sorted my stomach out thankfully but also I noticed yesterday that the background levels of high anxiety I'm used to living with seem to have gone down. Say it used to be 85 percent it now feels like 60. I'm quite surprised - is there a link or has anyone else experienced this?

Yes.

It's one of the reasons that my autistic son is so much better with minimal gluten in his diet although he's not technically intolerant

FagAsh a few years I was looking into this for my ds and watched some youtube videos by autistic teenagers describing really well the difference in how they thought/felt when they were on gluten versus avoiding it.

I can't remember the details but I think part of it was like extreme brain fog.

If this could help lots of autistic people then it's a travesty that doctors aren't investigating it more.

That's right Enidbutton - the kind of anxiety which is always being on edge, what I think used to be called frayed nerves actually physically uncomfortable and just constant rumination. This has definitely improved for me (so far -it seems to be improving all the time) I just feel on a much more even keel

Oh that is so interesting, I didn't know about the DNA testing. I am tempted to try it and pay for it although one company is charging £115! Yikes! I'd love to know, though.

@summerpavillion

Did you remove gluten from his diet? And did you notice a difference?
