Has anyone ordered from CEX online?

There is a product I want that I can't find elsewhere. I've found it at CEX and the FAQs say that they grade things depending on the condition and accessories. But i can't find it for the product! It just has the standard blurb but nothing about the individual item.

Is there something I'm missing or some way to find out? You have to pay for returns so I don't want to buy it if it's scratched to help or the battery life is terrible.

Thank you!

You can return items to any cex store free of charge if you dont want to pay return postage.

I've bought a few different things online from them and been very happy, but all had a condition grading. What's the item you want?

Drabarni · 11/01/2020 23:50

My ds has ordered from them and never had any problems, iirc you can take back to the store, if you have one.

Looks like that has a B grade, OP

Binglebong · 12/01/2020 00:19

Where does it say that? Sorry to be thick - I just couldn't find it.

I looked a couple of years ago and the delivery costs were crazy. Like nearly a tenner for some CDs and games crazy.

RhubarbTea · 12/01/2020 00:27

OP the B is at the end of the title - that's where they mention the grade.

SciFiScream · 12/01/2020 00:27

We've bought loads from CEX online. Even if we've seen it in the store we'll go home and buy it online due to better consumer rights with distance selling rules that cover buying online!

We've bought phones (never, ever, ever again), iPads - absolutely fine, Apple TV - absolutely fine and Smart keyboards for Apple iPad. 3 were fine, 1 had to be returned and bought again that took 3 goes to get a working keyboard.

Also bought an Apple Watch and various other things.

Moral of the story? Never, ever buy phones or C-grade items. Buy the highest grade (A) if you can afford it. Buy online, test and test and test and return quickly if anything wrong. No quibble returns within 14-days with the distance selling rules.

SciFiScream · 12/01/2020 00:28

If you buy online you can return to any store, free.

I have bought and sold loads of things from CEX. Absolutely love the place and have never had a problem yet. B grade is usually some slight scratches on the casing and is in perfect working condition. Looks like a bargain.

zoobincan · 12/01/2020 00:35

I have sold perfect consisting iPhones to CEX and only got a B grade because I didn't have the box or because the original EarPods were not in it - sometimes the grading has no reflection on the actual product you get!

zoobincan · 12/01/2020 00:36

*perfect condition

Binglebong · 12/01/2020 01:07

Thank you all! I'm picky about sound quality and live sont - but if you want bigger than 16gb it's high hundreds. This looks like my only choice. Sad

Thanks again.

This has good reviews and only £25. I'd have a poke about on Amazon before you commit to anything. I think sometimes you're paying for the name and the actual product is no better.

Binglebong · 12/01/2020 12:41

Thanks I have tried a lot of different ones over the years that were cheaper. Then I found an old sony, tested it to see if it still worked despite the state it was in and was blown away by the sound difference.

I di appreciate your help though.

Everything I’ve bought from there has been filthy. Nicotine stained gaming consoles, game discs with food stains etc.

Also, returns can sometimes be awkward. When we were last instore, a guy was being told he would have to wait a few days for his device he was returning to be tested by them before he could get his money back.

Binglebong · 12/01/2020 13:39

Thanks Earlobe. Sad

I have bought phones from CEX. I would only buy A grade.

The excellent thing about CEX is they have a TWO year warranty.

I did once have to return a phone after 6 months, the admin was a faff, but it was doable.

The other option is to look on Ebay.

Daddo007 · 01/05/2021 11:10

I’ve had Cex not honour their 2 yr warranty on £225 AirPod pros. Order AL480365. Apple acknowledge the crackling is a manufacturing error and will fix. But CEX say it’s earwax and told me simply to pick up my AirPods. I suspect it’s because they can’t go to Apple to resolve.

This is the difference between me continuing as a loyal Cex customer (I’ve bought various consoles and games previously and am a registered member) and never using again and use Apple / Amazon / eBay etc instead.

I will consider taking to trading standards if it can’t be resolved.

Link where Apple confirm the problem can be easily found - type HT211157
