Nicest things you had for your baby

I’ve got baby number two on the way and I’m just making a list of the things we need to buy.

Please don’t say you don’t need much and they just throw up on anything nice you have anyway because I like nice pretty things and I have the money, within reason, to spend so see no harm.

I don’t want to seem ungrateful but we made use of anything plastic and ugly we were given last time and they have since been given away so need to buy new things like play mat, baby gym, swingchair. So can you recommend the nicest things you have used.

A Tripp Trapp - my 7 yo still uses hers and our Baby Bjorn bouncer was worth the cost

Gooseysgirl · 11/01/2020 22:28

Tiny Love classic mobile is fab - both my kids LOVED it as babies.

The Mamas and Papas Octopus play mat is lovely and has a built in tummy time piece.

I had a sheepskin rug to lie them down on for naps sometimes, they loved it.

Baby beanbag was good too

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 11/01/2020 22:32

Baby nightgowns. Made nighttime nappy changing so much easier.

NewYearNewJobNewHome · 11/01/2020 22:33

4moms MamaRoo Infant seat Smile expensive but worth it.

Snowflake9 · 11/01/2020 22:38

Poddle pod. What a godsend this is.

reluctantbrit · 11/01/2020 22:38

At a solute newborn stage - large hooded towels, 1x1m, I think they came from The White Company. They thoroughly wrapped they baby.

A Baby snuggle, basically similar to a snowsuit but from thin fleece. dD hated being bundled up so that one meant being cosy and warm but could be u wrapped a lot easier and we added another fleece blanket when needed

A TrippTrapp, I think we retired it when DD was 9 and we got a new dining table and chairs.

A really soft merino sleeping bag, my child lived in it for about three months in winter.

Reversiblesequinsforadults · 11/01/2020 22:40

A friend gave me a lovely stretchy wrap sling.

PPopsicle · 11/01/2020 22:41

Not for baby however, I forked our for very expensive bedding for our bed.
It was wonderful, after a long day with DC, to climb into a really bloody nice bed.
Oh and a coffee machine, because who has time for a kettle to boil.

winewolfhowls · 11/01/2020 22:41

Had a next to you type cot for my bed with the second. Was much better than having to get up to feed or comfort.

Handmade crochet blankets. My mum is a whizz and made us a stunning collection. He's still using them now at 2 years old.

Baby safe "yarn" in cotton and bamboo is just bloody gorgeous and soft and comfy. Amazing patterns. Amazing colours.

What sort of style of things do you like.
Bright and colourful or more muted and minimalist?
Modern or classic?

Maxi cosi have some nice stuff out right now that I'm eyeing up. Namely their Kori rocker and Iora bedside crib.

On the other end of the aesthetic scale I had a cosatto buggy for my older two that I really loved because it was so bright and colourful and cheerful.

Other nice things we've had for them are:

  • pure wool cardies and cashmere blend blankets
  • sheepskin rug
  • those nice thick muslins with the satin edging
  • glass bottles
  • Jellycat teddies

More so now they're older but even when they were tiny they always had a couple of really nice outfits at any one time.

ConstanceL · 11/01/2020 22:47

We love our Tripp Trapp too. The nicest gift we got was a star wrap from Tuppence and Crumble. Also the thing we used the most was the ergobaby carrier, which I imagine would be even more essential if you have both a baby and older child to look after.

bluechameleon · 11/01/2020 22:48

Nice muslins - I like the Frugi ones

OhWellThatsJustGreat · 11/01/2020 22:48

Bedroom lamp, we got this welink dinosaur lamp. It gives the softest glow that's great for those early morning feeds and nappy changes allowing us to feed/change/settle ds easily.
They do a whole selection of different ones, there was a robot one too that I liked but I really like dinosaurs (poor boy has no choice 😂)

Baby Bjorn bouncer, a moby sling and a lovely swaddle blanket, I think it was called swaddlepod!

CrazyCatLady159 · 11/01/2020 22:50

A morrck blanket for the car seat / pushchair

Cuski swadaloons (think they're called that)

Xyzzzzz · 11/01/2020 22:51

Sleepyhead And a beanbag

peanutbutterandbananas · 11/01/2020 22:53

The Swoonup bouncer by BabyMoov was amazing for us - our #1 and 2 both loved it, and it was great having them at our height when we were on the sofa or at the table and not have the baby on the floor.

Merino sleeping bag. It was a gift and fit them for two years.

The other thing was a lovely jellycat bunny which is still much loved and cuddled a decade later
