Would you buy a bed from Argos??

We've been to a bed place tonight to see about getting 2 new beds for the dcs
Money is tight at the moment
2 beds in Dreams = £718 0% over 20months
2 similar beds in Argos £395 0% over 12m

They're silent night, pocket sprung with pillow topper
The ones in Dreams are pocket sprung with pillow topper

I know Argos do a 100 day trial but the bed can't be stained or damaged in any way

WWYD?

Have you looked at second hand beds and then get them new mattresses?

iklboo · 11/01/2020 21:09

DS's bed is from Argos. It's really comfy. We've only just replaced the mattress in the 8 year recommended time.

TheReluctantCountess · 11/01/2020 21:11

We bought DS’s bed in Argos last year. It took many hours to build, and had holes drilled in the wrong places. The ladder was dangerous and had to be replaced. The customer service at Argos is shocking, so the help and service received was terrible. Never again!

Never had a mattress from the but do have a bed frame from there. It’s not great quality but good value for money!

BertieBotts · 11/01/2020 21:13

I second the suggestion of a second hand furniture shop if you have one nearby. I think I managed to get DS1's first bed for about £60 including a brand new mattress.

Ikea, Homebase also worth a look. Dreams is overpriced and Argos is not the good kind of cheap.

TeaAndStrumpets · 11/01/2020 21:13

My daughter bought a lovely double bed frame and mattress from Argos. She was really pleased with the quality and delivery was good.

Torchlightt · 11/01/2020 21:15

Argos is fine, if a metal bed.
The wooden one we got had about 1000 slats to put together and had to send it back.

MooKnee · 11/01/2020 21:16

IKEA, got my dd a bed for under £150 and it’s super comfy

MAndSReadyMealForOne · 11/01/2020 21:17

A well known branded bed? Does it have a manufacturers warranty? As a child’s bed, I don’t see why not.

slipperywhensparticus · 11/01/2020 21:17

Never buy a metal bed full stop! Squeaks for years

MyDcAreMarvel · 11/01/2020 21:18

No, try IKEA their mattresses are very comfy.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 11/01/2020 21:20

Never again. We got our boys most recent beds from Mrs Flatpack and they've been absolutely brilliant, whereas the Argos beds lasted hardly any time at all...

buckleten · 11/01/2020 21:20

You need Ikea, great prices and really comfortable mattresses

Wafflehouse · 11/01/2020 21:21

I’ve just got one of the dcs a bed from Argos and it was bloody awful to put together. Somehow everything went together well at each stage but at the end the base for the mattress would not line up with the rest of the frame, there are loads of screws left over but it can take my weight so it’s ok. I’ve done loads of flat pack and am pretty good with it but this nearly killed me. I’d happily burn it rather than take it with us if we had to move house.

Our other dc has an Argos divan, it’s ok but one of the wheels fell off a while ago and has never gone back on properly. If I had the money I’d probably get them both decent beds from a furniture shop but they have what we could afford. I’d rather put the money into a decent mattress so compromised on the beds themselves so they could both have good mattresses.

Mumthedogsbeensick · 11/01/2020 21:25

I'm laid in a Silentnight bed from Argos right now. We've had it a year and it's lovely and comfy. I can't tell when DH gets out of bed which is great when he gets up for work at stupid o'clock!

Moonflower12 · 11/01/2020 21:26

Another one for IKEA. Our bed is from there and DD's. Both really comfortable.

OverByYer · 11/01/2020 21:27

No , I’ve had beds and other furniture from Argos, all poor quality.
I’d go to IKEA , I’ve had a few beds from there, excellent value even the cheapest mattress is really comfortable

lovelyupnorth · 11/01/2020 21:27

No but then I don’t think I’d buy anything from Argos. Would use a local Comapny or IKEA.

itsboiledeggsagain · 11/01/2020 21:29

700 on two kids beds!
wow!

We bought them on the internet- tesco i think - for about £80 each.

stripeypillowcase · 11/01/2020 21:31

ikea
honestly good value and no waiting for delivery.

Sn0tnose · 11/01/2020 21:31

I wouldn’t. Anytime I’ve ever bought anything from Argos, it’s been an absolute pain in the arse to put together and has fallen apart within a month or two. It might be cheaper but it’s a false economy.

BothALarkAndAnOwl · 11/01/2020 21:34

I bought a wooden king size bed with a Silent Night mattress from Argos in 2001. The bed has survived 4 house moves (being dismantled and rebuilt each time), and is now our spare room bed. Same mattress too, which I know sounds rather grim but it’s been well cared for, turned and cleaned regularly and is still bloody comfy.

All of that said, I haven’t bought anything other than children’s toys from Argos in the intervening 19 years.....

Boredbumhead · 11/01/2020 21:36

I've just bought an Argos bed and it is shit. Everytime I lie on it the slats fall out. If the kids jump on it I'm sure it will break. I wish I hadn't bothered.
