What foods do you think you invented?

When we were skint and were eating out of the fridge and cupboards DH ‘invented his favourite sandwich....

Hummus and raisins, he now eats it everyday even though we have enough food in the house to have normal sandwiches.

When I was little and we were poor, my Mum used to give me a bowl of dried milk as my supper. I thought that it was the best snack ever.

I had an uncle who would use cup a soups as flavouring for plain crisps. We still do this and bloody love it.

No falafal wrap is food of the gods my local Turkish "chippy" does it they use 2 wraps with falafel salad sauce and all the salad you would get on a kebab plus pickled cabbage. It's sooo good!

Scotland do well fired rolls which are so nice words can't describe (see pic) they are just morning rolls made with strong flour cooked for slightly longer but I don't think England sell such a thing well fired or otherwise.

Dp decided to put crisps and coleslaw in these rolls but I suppose any roll would work which I try to have for lunch on Saturday, absolutely bloody lovely!

Tattie scone on a roll the same as someone else may have a bacon roll. (preferably well fired)

Pea sandwiches, just buttered bread stuffed with peas then try to eat without them falling out.

Cheap supermarket cheese and tomato pizza with Monster Munch as a topping.

DP's comfort food. Two slices of toast, crunchy peanut butter and spaghetti hoops over the top.

So, so very wrong. But, almost inconceivably, it does work in some strange way.

ImTheOnlyUpsyOne · 23/01/2020 20:58

Peanut butter and cheese sandwiches Smile

Namestranger · 23/01/2020 21:01

Supernoodle sandwiches

Left over mashed potato with corned beef and onion mashed into it and fried.
Or.
Left over mashed potato with grated cheese and onion mashed into it and fried.
In fact, anything mashed potato.
I like mashed potato.

ColourMyDreams · 23/01/2020 21:30

Although clearly I didn't invent it. 😁

sausagepastapot · 23/01/2020 21:54

Toasted and buttered cinnamon and raisin bagel with bacon and ketchup- fuck me its so good.

sausagepastapot · 23/01/2020 21:59

Grandad did egg in a cup. Soft boiled egg and slice of buttered bread all chopped up and served in a mug.

My grandad didn't do this but this made smile so much...Just such a lovely image- the granddad serving the EIAC, not necessarily the EIAC itself...!

sausagepastapot · 23/01/2020 22:04

Oh oh and cheese eaten with mince pie or Christmas cake. The cheese can be cheddar or Stilton; bite both the cheese and selected baked good at once, and die happy.

ChilliMayo · 23/01/2020 22:07

Skint as fuck Chinese.
A sachet of microwave rice with a chow mien flavour Pot Noodle splonked on top.
In some homes also known as Colic Chinese, as its all you manage to serve up when dealing with colicky newborns.
Lived on it for years in the 90s with no long term damage.

Namestranger · 23/01/2020 22:09

Splonked 😎

MyHairNeedsASnip · 23/01/2020 22:12

Ketchup
Potato waffle
Toast with butter

It's a carby delight

PlaymobilPirate · 23/01/2020 22:15

I definitely invented soup rice.

Cook rice, pour a tin of chicken soup over it and mix in some maykway curry powder. Oven for 20 minutes... delicious

I'm going to need therapy after reading this thread...

TroysMammy · 23/01/2020 22:25

Toasted crumpets, marmite and cheese melted on top.

IJustWantToWearDungarees · 23/01/2020 22:26

Green beans with butter and garlic salt, then a large dollop of cream cheese on the top, so it melts all over them.

sillyoldelfbacktohimself · 23/01/2020 22:29

Bread toasted on an open fire then smothered in raspberry jam and whipped cream Grin

TroysMammy · 23/01/2020 22:30

My Dad would slice onions very thinly and place on a buttered pyrex plate, slices of cheese on top and melted under the grill. Then beat an egg, add a little milk, pour over onions and cheese and put back under the grill until set. It's not an omelette before anyone says so as the egg sets with a crispy top. Delicious with tomato ketchup.

CalleighDoodle · 23/01/2020 22:32

Salad cream on toast. When i was young i also used to eat garden mint sauce in toast.

Racheyg · 23/01/2020 22:47

My dad lives a black pudding, mango chutney and raw onion sandwich.

It's delish 😋

Afonavon · 24/01/2020 20:35

I’m eating my very own antipasti platter:

Carrots, gerkins, crisps and cheesecake. Alternate a bit of savoury (crisps/genkins) with a bite of sweet (gerkins/carrot).

I could live without the cheesecake, but must eat raw carrots gerkins and crisps together after work every day, it’s my law!
