What foods do you think you invented?

When we were skint and were eating out of the fridge and cupboards DH ‘invented his favourite sandwich....

Hummus and raisins, he now eats it everyday even though we have enough food in the house to have normal sandwiches.

When I was little and we were poor, my Mum used to give me a bowl of dried milk as my supper. I thought that it was the best snack ever.

I had an uncle who would use cup a soups as flavouring for plain crisps. We still do this and bloody love it.

Plain or cheese and onion crisps in a bowl with vinegar on it.

My invention.

KatherineJaneway · 11/01/2020 22:52

Peas with vinegar

TheMostHappy · 11/01/2020 22:59

A digestive biscuit, a layer of strawberry jam, a layer of whipped cream, another digestive on top. A punch in the pancreas, but 😘👌🏼

Chips, bread sauce and gravy

shinynewapple2020 · 11/01/2020 23:02

Mashed potato and mayonnaise sandwiches- even better with cheese

@Daisychainsandglitter I think prawn cocktail crisps dipped in philly is even nicer Smile

Never had chopped banana in soup though! That's got to be the wired combination winner.

FloreanFortescue · 11/01/2020 23:08

Ribena milkshakes as a kid!

As an adult - bacon, brie and cranberry combination. I used to ask for it everywhere and got funny looks. Now it's everywhere!

Bunnylady54 · 11/01/2020 23:08

Not sure if I invented this but I ate Double Gloucester & chives cheese with cold roasties one Christmas & it was sooooo good!
Mum used to give DB & me cream cheese & raisin or cream cheese & date sandwiches as kids which I have never eaten since or seen anywhere else.
Cheese on toast with vinegar
My sis in law puts fresh basil on cheese on toast

Bunnylady54 · 11/01/2020 23:10

Cold peas with mayonnaise are really good. Unfortunately for my waistline, loads of foods are really good with mayo!

Shannith · 11/01/2020 23:11

@TheMostHappy a punch in the pancreas is inspired.

I also eat digestives like that, but with clotted cream.

cricketmum84 · 11/01/2020 23:13

Sandwich of crusty white bread, butter, creamy Lancashire cheese. Sea brook cheese and onion crisps and salad cream.

cricketmum84 · 11/01/2020 23:15

@BestZebbie that sounds like heartburn o'clock!

HerRoyalFattyness · 11/01/2020 23:15

Oh and I love chips, cheese and gravy.

Sharkyfan · 11/01/2020 23:17

For all the low carbers out there -

90% dark chocolate with some whole earth peanut butter on top. Yum*

*i acknowledge I might not have Invented this...

HeronLanyon · 11/01/2020 23:21

On occasional sweet craving I have been known to stir cocoa and a touch of honey into plain yoghurt. Into freezer for short time until it does passable ice cream impersonation. Definitely no one else has ever done this anywhere, ever, but me.

BuffaloCauliflower · 11/01/2020 23:29

@Thestrangestthing that’s the most alarming one of these I’ve ever seen. How on earth did you do this in the first place?

funnyoldonion · 11/01/2020 23:29

Wow, I'm really intrigued by a toast sandwich @SomewhereNow

I like cheese and onion crisps with milky bar together. I invented that sweet and salty thing in the eighties!

BuffaloCauliflower · 11/01/2020 23:31

@Nordicwannabe that’s a favourite of mine too. Even better if the eggs are still warm.

ec1993 · 11/01/2020 23:36

Pasta shells with butter, salt and a tiny bit of black pepper 😍

HeronLanyon · 11/01/2020 23:45

ec1993 well if you had said ‘lashings of butter’ i would have had to claim prior discovery going back decades Smile food from the gods.
Also shells or tortiglioni with plain yoghurt (crushed garlic stirred in) and salt and pepper.

weegiemum · 11/01/2020 23:46

Cold baked bean and mayonnaise sandwiches on granary bread.

Initially a pregnancy cravings bf, but it was sooooo good I still eat it!

HeronLanyon · 11/01/2020 23:48

Oh dear god - baked beans and mayonnaise - for some reason my stomach lurched reading that - not in a good way. ! Do you kind of drain the bb so they are less wet?

TwistinMyMelon · 11/01/2020 23:53

You are all animals! 😂

I am not good with the savouray/sweet thing! 😩.

Very boring compared to some of these, but when I am hungover I absolutely must have cheese topped rolls filed with thick layer of butter, mayo, mature cheddar slices and great handfuls of Sainsbury's hand cooked cheese and spring onion crisps.

When I was pregnant I had a real thing about sweet corn and cheese on toast. Couldn't go a day without eating it.

Princessfaffalot · 11/01/2020 23:56

Marmite on any chocolate.

ec1993 · 11/01/2020 23:58

@HeronLanyon haha! Definitely lashings of butter! So so bad for you but reminds me of my early childhood when Mum and Dad were broke and I'm not sure why I'd want to relive that but I still eat it now if not got much else in!

tararabumdeay · 12/01/2020 00:02

Grandad did egg in a cup. Soft boiled egg and slice of buttered bread all chopped up and served in a mug.
