What foods do you think you invented?

When we were skint and were eating out of the fridge and cupboards DH ‘invented his favourite sandwich....

Hummus and raisins, he now eats it everyday even though we have enough food in the house to have normal sandwiches.

When I was little and we were poor, my Mum used to give me a bowl of dried milk as my supper. I thought that it was the best snack ever.

I had an uncle who would use cup a soups as flavouring for plain crisps. We still do this and bloody love it.

New potato sandwiches with mint sauce or with salad cream

HaudMaDug · 11/01/2020 18:19

Cheese and raspberry jam sandwiches. Delish.
Also a salad of lettuce, tomato, cucmber, spring onion, sweetcorn and gerkins with chicken gravy. If I'm feeling greedy I'll have a bit mayo on the side.

chubbyspice · 11/01/2020 18:42

Baked potato with sweetcorn, salsa, sour cream and jalapenos. I'm Irish and love Mexican food - it's fusion really.
Obviously not any way as inventive as what the rest of you have come up with.

My 18 year old thinks she invented ham, jam and tomato ketchup sandwiches.

Afonavon · 11/01/2020 18:50

I remember thinking that I’d invented cheesy beans because I melted the cheese in the beans not melting it on top of the beans! 😁

I used to hollow out a raw carrot with a knife, then filling the gap with salad cream. Yum!

I am pretty sure I invented brie with salt & vinegar crisp sandwichettes:

get two S&V crisps (I prefer a Kettle Chip type one for this)
take small cube of ripe Brie (strong enough to hold its own against the vinegar)
apply Brie to one crisp
smoosh other crisp on top

Kind of a travesty, but also delish.

FruityWidow · 11/01/2020 18:59

No-one has had my invention - Quince membrillo and stilton sandwich using soreen bread.

RuudGullitOnAShed · 11/01/2020 19:18

This is my Sunday evening favourite if we have had roast beef.

Slices of roast beef thickly pattered in horseradish - crisps crushed and sprinkled on top of the horseradish (the only acceptable flavours are Worcestershire sauce, Marmite or in an emergency plain Pringles)
Roll up the meat and enjoy.

lostsoulsunited · 11/01/2020 19:33

It's a drink made with a spoonful of Marmite diluted in a teacup of hot water.

I drink this very occasionally, maybe once or twice a year - though I've had it twice this year already thanks to the heathens on the other thread that do it with Bovril Grin

Aunt Betty's yorkshire puddings have to be served with a fried egg not with cranberry sauce.

Charlottejbt · 11/01/2020 19:37

Yes, Marmite drink is brilliant this time of year. More substantial than a cuppa, less calorific than a snack. The idea of Bovril grosses me out for some reason.

Nordicwannabe · 11/01/2020 19:41

Egg mayonnaise and grated cheddar cheese sandwiches. No idea why it isn't a classic combination!

StartOfRoaringTwenties · 11/01/2020 19:41

Hot cross bun and mature cheddar sandwiches

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 11/01/2020 19:43

Peanut butter and salad rolls. Food of the Gods, even if I am on my own....

Thestrangestthing · 11/01/2020 19:45

Tinned cream of chicken soup with a chopped up banana in it. I mean I'm probably the only person to ever eat that as a combination.

iklboo · 11/01/2020 19:46

Cheese & brown sauce crumpets.

R2519 · 11/01/2020 20:01

Reading all these food assortments has gotten me so hungry......even the most unusual ones ha e got me thinking they may actually be quite nice! Lol

Shock

Yes I do believe out of the 7 billion or so people on this earth you are the only person to eat this

JurassicShay · 11/01/2020 20:18

Marmite and prawn cocktail crisp sandwich on white bread

Twiglets dipped in dairylea

Salt & vinegar kettle crisp dipped in dairylea

LemonPrism · 11/01/2020 20:36

@issey that's literally a basic Chinese marinade....

longearedbat · 11/01/2020 20:43

I was having mashed avocado on toast as a snack over 20 years ago (actually, I like it on marmite toast). I was amazed when it became a 'thing' - I thought it was commonplace, a bit like a banana sandwich, i.e. just a way of using up overripe fruit and veg.

iMatter · 11/01/2020 20:51

Bovril and lettuce sandwiches (on white bread with butter)

MotherofPoodles · 11/01/2020 20:57

Ginsters spicy chicken slice. Take the top off and pour over a whole packet of walkers salt and vinegar crisps. Close it back up and eat sandwich style. Stunning!

ittooshallpass · 11/01/2020 21:02

Banana hotdogs

Deecaff · 11/01/2020 21:12

Toast with warmed tinned tomatoes on top and a sprinkle of dried herbs with mayonnaise on the side.

The OP Reminded me that I used to sneak spoonfuls of dried milk straight from the tin.

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 11/01/2020 21:24

I don't have anything like this and it makes me quite sad.

You are all disgusting, by the way. :o
